Barry Scott just played an early-'70s cover of Cymarron's "Rings" by none other than Lobo. He didn't improve on the unjustly forgotten hit.
Yes! never understood why he covered it (or why they released it as a single). There's also a country version that switched out "James taylor on the stereo" for Merle Haggard or Hank Williams, iirc. And of course it was written by Alex harvey of "Delta Dawn" fame
