I'm told CKRU is doing the 1970 show today -- fingers crossed.

and sure enuf:  the J-5 debut at #40, followed by Sugarloaf.

BOS1 Chairmen of the Board, "Everything's Tuesday", light-headed and woozy.

BOS2 the Poppy Family's fab, forgotten "That's Where I Went Wrong".

uber-LN: "Lola"; but BOS3 "Indiana Wants Me"

VHM the New Seekers covering Melanie. il sont changez!

BOS4 3DN, "Out in the Country" -- Paul Williams, you are a god.

and now Melanie herself with "Peace Will Come". BOS5 -- damn this first hour has been stellar.

and it continues: Mark Farner wants his damn ship back, yo.

BOS6 Ms Ronstadt's achingly beautiful "Long Long Time"

A truly spectacular first hour -- and still there's more greatness: The post-Diana Supes with the more-relevant-than-ever "Everybody's Got The Right To Love" (BOS7), and Mike Nesmith's always-welcome "Joanne" (BOS8).

Hour 2 starts with a clunker: Hotlegs (who would become 10cc) "Neanderthal Man"

BOS9 "Express Yo'self"; BOS Hall of Fame "It's a Shame"

BOS10 Ronnie Dyson.

Neil D is solitary, man; BS&T are singin' 'bout Heidi da 'Ho.

BOS11 "Rubber Duckie"! I'd rather bathe with (BOS12) Tom Jones, who covers Ben E King in style on "I Who Have Nothing".

"Don't Play that Song" -- our 2nd Ben E King cover, and easily one of my 2 or 3 fave Aretha records. Utterly fabulous from start to finish. uber-BOS13... and speaking of Ben E King, TO & Dawn's wonderful Drifters/Brill Building hommage "Candida" gets BOS14. This has been one of the best AT40s ever.

'86 kicks off with Art of Noise/Max Headroom "Paranoimia".

uber-BOS1 Jermaine Stewart's fab "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off"

I'm not mad about Belinda C .  WOS1 Journey.

Casey's trivia piece on "#1 songs by acts named after cities" didn't include Boston -- their "Amanda" would hit the top spot in a couple more months.

WOS2 Peter Cetera.

BOS2 sweet Anita Baker; BOS3 Simply Red, "Money$ Too Tight" -- did the earth move for ya, Nancy?

Haven't heard Macca's "Press" in ages.

I'm only here for the first 45 mins or so, will catch the whole show tonite.

BOS1: The J-5 get up off they high horse, gurl.

Cross Country (former members of the Tokens!) do a mellowed-out cover of "In the Midnight Hour"

BOS2 Aretha, comin' by when she can. The melody on the box will help me explain...

LN: Joe Walsh.

Barry White got SO much to give. Braggart.

Kris K with his looooooooooong-charting "Why Me?"  Lawd help me Jeebus!

The Chil-Lites: back-seat drivers in a car of love with the uber-BOS3 "Stoned Outta Mah Mind"

and just before the PM version of Casey, Magic 98 plays Gun Hill Road's immortal "Back When My Hair Was Short".

picking up where I left off: Casey tells a nice story about how the name "Conrad Byrdie" was a takeoff on Conway Twitty -- How did I never make that connection?

BOS4 Gilbert O, gettin down.

Dan Ingram used to joke that Maureen McGovern was the Senator's wife, paying off his campaign debt with a hit record.

Joe Simon's "Theme From Cleopatra Jones" is another great R&B rarity. "Touch me like the desert wind" indeed.

1980: the only debut song of the week: Elton's "Don't You Wanna Play this Game No More (Sartorial Eloquence)" -- a collab with Tom Robinson. VHMFRA.

VHM one of Lionel Ritchie's last hits with the Commodores, "Old Fashion Love"

Livingston Taylor, nearly as dull as his brother.

BOS1 Jermaine Jackson's forgotten "You're Supposed To Keep Your Love For Me", a Stevie Wonder comp orig recorded in 1975 but remixed (without MJ's backing vocals) for the Lets Get Serious LP.

BOS2 H&O's "How Does it Feel to be Back", as dead-on a Tom Petty imitation as I've heard.

BOS3 Benny Mardones' "Into the Night" on its first chart go-'round.

VHM ONJ's "Magic"; ditto Dionne W's 2nd Manilow-helmed hit.

uber-BOS4 Babs, "Woman in Love"; uber-BOS5 Boz, "Look What You've Done to Me".

VHM Carly's "Jessie" -- damn, this 2nd hour turned out great.

We're "Sailing" "All Over The World", and "You'll Accomp'ny Me" because "You're the Only Woman"... maybe we'll end up in "Xanadu".

This week, That '70s Casey visits Sept 28th 1974:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/09-28-74.pdf

but there's rumor of a 2nd show for affiliates to choose from, not yet announced.

and Casey's '80s is from  Sept 28th 1985:

and what better way to start a countdown than with Reunion's fab ":Life is a Rock"? BOS1

VHM Jim Stafford -- 3rd time in 2 months we've heard this one.  Casey sounds like he has a cold.

eek: Marilyn Sellars' Jeebus-centric "One Day at a Time"

The BBs make their big '70s comeback with the re-release of "Surfin' USA".

BOS2 and most welcome rarity of the week: Souther Hillman Furay's Poco-esque "Fallin' in Love"

BOS3 JB, takin' no mess, yo.

Hour 2 begins with BOS4: The Osmonds' still-beautiful "Love Me For a Reason".

VHM the post-Smokey Miracles, "Do It Baby". can't nobody groove me like ya do!

Charlie Rich precedes "The Bitch". Heh.

Carole King sings to her bra!  BOS5

Joni sings to David Geffen! BOS6 (I understand Geffen is a flaming douchebag, but anybody who inspired "Free Man in Paris" can't be all bad).

The Tymes salute seamstresses with "You Little Truss-maker" VHM. And VHM Blue Swede's *other* hit, their cover of "Never My Love". Less gimmkicky than that ooga-chukka thing.

BOS7 Bo Donaldson, "Who Do You Think You Are?"

"You're Having My Baby" was often derided for being "pro-life" or "anti-choice". But that line "You didn't have to keep it/ Wouldn't put ya through it..." indicates the singer isn't forcing her to do anything and would've been more than willing to spring for an abortion, no?

I'm heading out to see Looper, but'll Ill stay long enuf to BOS8 "Earache My Eye". And bail before I have to hear "Sweet Home Ala-bummer".

'85 Hour 1: Starship built this city that Glenn Frey belongs to.

Casey says "And We danced" is the Hooters' first Top 40 hit -- I'd've sworn "All You Zombies" made the 40 but it peaked at #58 (!)

BOS1 ABC "Be Near Me"

WOS1 & 2: Bryan Adams and Bryan Adams, at both #37 and #35. Oy.

BOS2 Eurythmics feat Eivets Rednow.

Hour 2, BOS3: UB40 feat Chrissie Hynde covering Sonny & Cher; BOS4 Paul Young covering Ann Peebles.

WOS3 Night Ranger.

the rest of this hour is pretty uninspiring: TFF, BJ, Motley Crue, John Waite, Loverboy... meh.

This week That '70s Casey is another split ticket: Oct 7th 1972 / Oct 7th 1978

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/10-07-72.pdf

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/10-07-78.pdf

The '78 show was the first-ever 4-hour AT40, tho' few stations will actually run the 4-hour version. Irony.

And Casey's '80s is from Oct 3rd 1987

Both Canuck stations are going with the 3-hour version of '78 -- kcicks off with H&O's fab "It's a Laugh", BOS1.

but wait -- found WJER, doing '72.  Cool rarities: Sam Neely, Jerry Wallace, and Michael Murphy's "Geroinimo's Cadillac"

Zho Co-KAIR's version of "Midnight Rider" is one you never hear.

'72 BOS1 Gallery's "I Believe in Music"; BOS2 BeeGees "Run To Me"

BOS3 Joe Simon, "Power of Love".  Lissen to me honey!

this staion is in OHIO and I'm hearing Romney's "Obama hates coal" ads. Blecch.

and of course uber-BOS4 the 5-D's gorgeous "If I Could Reach You". Marilyn McCoo, ah LURVE you.

BOS5 Chi Coltrane -- it's more than she can bear! it reaches everywhere!
