Too early to rest easy, but things may be looking up, in one way: CNN poll says Obama's lead has doubled, from 4 to 8 points.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/06/poll.of.polls/index.html

And Bush's approval rating now ties Nixon's pre-resignation rating as the lowest ever: 24 percent.
Let's get right to it.

All the polls have been trending in O's direction the last couple of weeks.  I'm still on pins & needles, but it's worth remembering that what counts is the Electoral map; that's looking better also and it's what his strategy is based on, not national tracking polls.  McCain's looking bad in battleground states where he needs to look good, like VA and PA.

I have to say that I hate both political parties and wish there were a third legitimate party but even though I hate Joe Biden with a passion (he's part of the good ol boys network), I'm voting Obama. It's because of the past 6 years (I didn't have a problem with dubya in the first two years) of Bush that has me voting for Obama. McBush er McCain is the same. I liked McCain in 2000 but I hate him now. I'm a moderate now (but probably would be to the right of every single one of you guys/gals because all of you are pretty liberal).

Obama is leading Florida last time I looked by 4%, 9% in PA, 4/8% in VA, 3.5% in Ohio. If MCain loses Florida, Obama wins the election.

BTW, you folks see the article this past weekend about Karl Rove?? He said if the election were to happen right now, he said Obama wins. Oh and if you vote absentee ballot, you'll be getting it pretty soon. Some cities you could vote right now.

Oregon is the only state with all-mail voting. No polling places, all ballots are sent by mail (we should be getting them any day now) and you can mail them back from anywhere in the state, or drop them in special drop boxes in almost any town.
Let's get right to it.

However, parts of the Castro have all-male voting.  ;)

Interesting piece on politico.com about Obama's intense use of radio -- we just discussed the political ads on KBCO last week, and lo & behold:

Quote
In Boulder, Colo., the radio onslaught proved forceful enough that Bret Saunders, who hosts the morning show at the adult rock station KBCO, spent some time on the air last week addressing a novel theme: some listeners’ irritation at a barrage of radio ads, some harshly negative, from Barack Obama.

“There was a perception with some listeners that they’re hearing a lot of Obama ads on KBCO because KBCO is in the tank for Obama,” he said after the show. “I told them that we have a legal obligation to sell political advertising to whoever wants to buy it.”

That morning, Obama’s campaign was attacking John McCain for spending taxpayer money in Iraq. But the radio assault began during the Republican National Convention, when McCain’s poll numbers among women shot up with the choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. Obama launched a hard-edged attack on McCain’s position on abortion.

“John McCain’s out of touch with women today,” says the ad’s narrator, a nurse. “McCain wants to take away our right to choose. That’s what women need to understand. That’s how high the stakes are.” McCain’s camp and the Republican National Committee replied in kind with an ad on a related theme. McCain supports “stem cell research to help free families from the fear and devastation of illness,” says the ad’s female narrator.

Obama again responded.

“Stem cell research could unlock cures for diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s, too. But John McCain has stood in the way. ... He’s opposed stem cell research,” says the narrator of the ad, which was widely criticized as misleading, as McCain has not backed away from his recent support for the practice, though he opposed it a decade earlier.

McCain “picked a running mate who’s against it. ... And he’s running on a platform even more extreme than George Bush’s on this vital research,” Obama’s ad continues

There's more, describing other Obama ads, but you get the idea. I thought the 'BCO mention was interesting.  It's also intersting what people perceive as "negative" -- I mean, McCain *IS* pledged to overturn Roe v. Wade; running an ad that says so is pretty straight-ahead campaigning as far as I can see.

Did you notice the credit at the end to the "American Titty Committee"?

I have to share with you that I fear for Obama.  McCain and Palin are shamelessly whipping their audiences into a froth with hatred, and the Secret Service had better be vigilant.  I can't take another martyr right now.

I think we're all thinking the same thing. These people at their rallies who really hate him/think he's a Muslim/think he's a "terrorist" -- I mean, seriously, WTF?

I've been fearing the same thing all week.  Serious question: If the horrible happened and Obama were assassinated before Nov. 4, would Joe Biden automatically become the presidential nominee, or would the Democratic party need to re-convene and re-select?

Indeed, I've had that thought as well. These are desperate times we're living in right now, and I shudder to think how many racist sociopaths might be out there who would do anything not to have "one of them" as their president. It would just take one.
