John McCain: If your campaign does not stop equating Sen. Barack Obama with terrorism, questioning his patriotism and portraying Mr. Obama as "not one of us," I accuse you of deliberately feeding the most unhinged elements of our society the red meat of hate, and therefore of potentially instigating violence.

At a Sarah Palin rally, someone called out, "Kill him!" At one of your rallies, someone called out, "Terrorist!" Neither was answered or denounced by you or your running mate, as the crowd laughed and cheered. At your campaign event Wednesday in Bethlehem, Pa., the crowd was seething with hatred for the Democratic nominee - an attitude encouraged in speeches there by you, your running mate, your wife and the local Republican chairman.

Shame!

John McCain: In 2000, as a lifelong Republican, I worked to get you elected instead of George W. Bush. In return, you wrote an endorsement of one of my books about military service. You seemed to be a man who put principle ahead of mere political gain.

You have changed. You have a choice: Go down in history as a decent senator and an honorable military man with many successes, or go down in history as the latest abettor of right-wing extremist hate.

John McCain, you are no fool, and you understand the depths of hatred that surround the issue of race in this country. You also know that, post-9/11, to call someone a friend of a terrorist is a very serious matter. You also know we are a bitterly divided country on many other issues. You know that, sadly, in America, violence is always just a moment away. You know that there are plenty of crazy people out there.

Stop! Think! Your rallies are beginning to look, sound, feel and smell like lynch mobs.

John McCain, you're walking a perilous line. If you do not stand up for all that is good in America and declare that Senator Obama is a patriot, fit for office, and denounce your hate-filled supporters when they scream out "Terrorist" or "Kill him," history will hold you responsible for all that follows.

John McCain and Sarah Palin, you are playing with fire, and you know it. You are unleashing the monster of American hatred and prejudice, to the peril of all of us. You are doing this in wartime. You are doing this as our economy collapses. You are doing this in a country with a history of assassinations.

Change the atmosphere of your campaign. Talk about the issues at hand. Make your case. But stop stirring up the lunatic fringe of haters, or risk suffering the judgment of history and the loathing of the American people - forever.

We will hold you responsible.

Did you catch "Hall & Oates" on SNL comment on Obama-McCain?:

That was quite funny, indeed the whole half-hour last nite was several notches above your typical SNL 90-minute slog.

and it gets worse, seemingly, by the hour: The McCain camp defends the yahoos who scream "Traitor!" and "Kill him!" etc:

Palin is supposed to drop the puck at tomorrow nite's Flyers home opener -- knowing how prone to booing Philly fans are, this could be interesting...

Did you read the comments?  Every single one was against McCain & his spokesperson Nicole Wallace.  And all were 'apparently' coming form places like Missouri & Texas.  Either a great job by Obama's footsoldiers using the internet, or a clear signal that the GOP is losing the heartland.

Probably a combination of the 2 (it *is* the MSNBC website, after all) but clearly McCain finally got the message, as late today he sternly corrected 2 supporters at one of his town halls -- a guy who said Obama "scares me" and a woman who called Obama "an Arab" (!). Apparently his polling negatives were thru the roof this week.

Possibly the best call-em-as-I-see-em political blog I've read this entire election season. This 83-year-old woman from Texas has the stones to come out and call Palin a bitch straight out, while telling McCain he should sit down and shut up. Her post titled "Maverick my ass" alone is priceless.

(Obviously word has gotten around on this--she's getting huge hits, and comments number in the hundreds.)
Let's get right to it.

I must confess I spent way too much time reading that...but I don't believe *this* Helen Philpot is who she claims to be. I think it's just a scam. No proof, it's just a feeling.

I did find this in the process, though:

Is this really happening?  Are we really questioning Obama's character?

On the http://www.america.gov/ web site, the web portal for the U.S. Department of State, there are only two candidates listed as running for president, even though there are six names on the ballot.

I wrote them about it, using this page
http://usinfo.state.gov/utils/ag_feedback.html?t=americagov#popup

Feel free to edit and send your own message:

Hello,

I was trying to find information on presidential candidates on your site, and following the U.S. Politics-->Elections 2008 map, I was able to click on the "Candidates" tab. I was shocked to discover information is listed for only two of the six candidates running for president. It's a shame that the official government web site refuses to recognize the other four candidates. This is not what I call democracy. Please update the web site to offer fair representation, and stop misleading voters.

Thank you,
Amelia Ray
