I can't wait until the VP candidates' debate.
Biden's in trouble, based on her speech tonite. She was GOOD. (and I say that as someone who didn't agree with a single f---ing thing she said).
Hard to say.  She did well, but was far from convincing.  She delivered the requisite red meat to the true believers, but I wonder how far outside the Republican Reality Distortion Field she will radiate.  I felt like both her and Guiliani were incredibly sneeringly insulting when describing Obama's experience as a community organizer.  The crowd kept chanting "Zero" all night, for Barack's supposed lack of executive experience.  Ugh.

This was overwhelmingly what I took away from it.  Well said, Geoff.

Q: How many people of color are here tonight?
Crowd: "Zero, zero, zero!"

Q: Does it concern any of you that no one who's spoken tonight has laid out a concrete plan for fixing our economy apart from "let's put all the money in the hands of rich people and let them be wise with it"?
Crowd: "USA! USA! USA!"

Sigh.

Mike, as for the country artists, they know which side their bread's buttered on and they remember the Dixie Chicks quite well.  But if Rich is the Big & Rich guy with the painstakingly manscaped goatee, he ought be careful about mingling with a party that doesn't like the homosexualists.

BTW, here are some of my friends' Facebook updates over the past 18 hours.  (Yes, I have some GOP friends.)

XXX had a good time at the gym running while watching "Parade of Losers" night at the GOP convention.

XXX agrees that you shouldn't use change to promote your career; rather you should use your career to promote change.

XXX believes that the only normal person in Sarah Pallin's family is the baby with Down syndrome.

XXX just watched the the next Attorney Gen. Rudy Giuliani and next VP Sarah Palin, knock it out of the park!

XXX was profoundly moved by, and impressed with, Sarah Palin and cannot wait vote for her.

XXX wants to look into genetic engineering, or maybe replacing his people feet with orangutan feet, so he can give Giuliani FOUR MIDDLE FINGERS.

XXX uh oh. she's good. she sucks, but she's good.

XXX blinded by the white.

XXX is building a bridge to nowhere, and Sarah Palin is on the other side.

XXX thinks if this was a dem who had a pregnant daughter the mother would be pilloried stedda celebrated.

XXX thinks it will be weird referring to Sarah Palin as a GILF instead of a MILF in a few months.

Roland Martin breathes some righteous fire about Palin's idiotic rip on community organizers!  I wish he could do this in his columns.

I am trying not to get my hopes up too much, but apparently the AP is actually fact-checking the Repugnicans' speeches.  Could we really be turning a corner?  Too late for Gore or Kerry, but just maybe...

I just read that piece--it was also linked from here:

There are several other example of good reportage on Palin and the GOP manipulation of reality linked at the bottom of that piece.

It occurs to me that the GOP's incredible slagging of the media, just might lead the media to wake up from its normal role of GOP lapdog, and show a little spine.

Yay: He indeed writes a corresponding column:

Meantime, Geoff's summed up my wishes.  I bitched about Palin and the GOP in today's BIBT entry.

A letter about Palin from one of her constituents and fellow resident of Wasilla. I was skeptical of its legitimacy at first, but supposedly it's been vetted.

And that was also him singing that awful "Raising McCain" song after the speech last nite.  I guess "Big" is an Obama supporter, he was conspicuous by his absence, given that Rich, Gretchen Wilson & Cowboy Troy were there.

But meanwhile, I'm rather impressed that Jon BonJovi is doing a big Obama concert, given *his* fanbase.

Cindy McCain's convention outfit cost $300,000, according to the latest AP wire.  I keep waiting to reach the tipping point for a backlash from the nation's less than affluent, between this & her husband saying he doesn't even know how many properties he owns.

That'll play well with the common man, err, woman.  Even if their estimates are off by 50 percent, that is just obscene.
