CG plays Labi Siffre's superbly inspirational "Something Inside So Strong", a UK hit in the '80s that was improbably covered by Kenny Rogers in the states.

Here's the orig:

and here's Kenny (with Dolly & Willie):

Highlight (so far) of CG's retro-chart countdown from early 1987: Carly Simon's "Coming Around Again", ignored by the Academy and far superior to the song she *did* win an Oscar for a couple years later. Here's the Chart, BTW:

01. () Ben E King - Stand By Me {1987}
02. () George Michael And Aretha Franklin - I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)
03. (-) Curiosity Killed The Cat - Down To Earth
04. () Pepsi And Shirlie - Heartache
05. () Percy Sledge - When A Man Loves A Woman {1987}
06. () Man 2 Man Meets Man Parrish - Male Stripper {1987}
07. () Randy Crawford - Almaz
08. () Blow Monkeys - It Doesn't Have To Be This Way
09. () Five Star - Stay Out Of My Life
10. () Level 42 - Running In The Family
11. () Michael Crawford And Sarah Brightman - The Music Of The Night/Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again
12. () Taffy - I Love My Radio
13. () Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing {1987}
14. () Carly Simon - Coming Around Again
15. () Eric Clapton - Behind The Mask
16. () Vesta Williams - Once Bitten Twice Shy
17. () Europe - Rock The Night
18. () Jets {US} - Crush On You
19. () Mental As Anything - Live It Up
20. () Steve 'Silk' Hurley - Jack Your Body

"there's no hope for the hungry child whose Joker is wild"  Huh?

Blow Monkeys and their soundalike "Digging Your Scene" followup, "It Doesn't Have to be That Way" (NOT the Jim Croce song).

CGSS's Greg played Lamont Dozier's "Why Can't We Be Lovers", per a listener request. The listener described the original 45 of the song that she owned back in the day, "There was a blue label and grey lettering on my original 7-inch". To which Greg replied, "There's no lettering on *MY* original 7-inch, baby!"   :o :o :o

"If you make out
the very first night
just make sure
you got your game tight"

The Impressions with "First Impressions", one for the short list of song titles that contain the name of the artist.

I think The The have one or two of those.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

Good news: after being down for several months, the KCDX stream is back.  And Steve Forbert's "You Cannot Win if You Do Not Play" is the first song I hear.

CGSS plays the Trammps fab "Where Do We Go From Here", an early (pre-Atlantic) single that's totally Philly -- you can imagine the Three Degrees doing a swell cover of this.
