Lawd! Ashford & Simpson, "High-Rise", way up on the East Side.  Which is where they live, actually. Or did -- I used to see Nick Ashford walking on 3rd Ave occasionally.

Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", one of the few great '80s instrumentals to hit the pop chart -- I'm gonna demand this next time Dave does that theme set.

So glad i opted for JJ over Bob: "Gonna take a Miracle" (the orig by the Royalettes) followed by one of my all-time faves, "Oh No Not My Baby", a Goffin/King gem of pre-feminist rationalization, rendered by Maxine Brown.

Veddy interesting: CG's retro chart show has Greg Lake reminiscing about the week in '77 when "Fanfare for the Common man" was near the top of the pops. here's the chart, more or less:

and one of the highlights of that chart: Kenny Rogers, "Lucille". Ah, for the days when country gems like this routinely crossed over to pop.

New to me: Brotherhood of Man, ripping off ABBA with "Angelo", a shameless mashup of "Fernando" and "Chiquitita".  Yikes.
