3 Oct 2013: it's... 1972
« on: October 03, 2013, 07:59:30 AM »
Renee's clue: "Mikey Likes it"  -- I actually looked this up recently because I wanted to use it in my novel; I remembered it as being earlier but that first commercial aired in 1972, per Wiki.

Of course, with Renee, that gives us a 5-year window on either side...

Doobs be rockin' down da highway, yo.  Well, this beats "Listen to the Music" anyway. VHM.

Well, at least we get mowed down by a "Drive By" as a lead-in.

ABC newscast --> "Sunshine", Jonathan Edwards (which appeared in the Drive's '71 set this morning, as it straddles both years.)

Pleasant enough so far, but hoping for something to fire me up a bit.  VHM, ABB, but a little low key for me this morning.  First time this week I've had time to actively listen.  Work's been nuts.

I'll BOS this. I don't have specific recollections of hearing this at the time (I was 3), but it was evoking something warm inside me, so I'm thinking it was in the air around me then.

Their last Top Ten'er -- "Someday Never Comes" would follow it into the Top 40 and that was all she wrote.

When Michael McDonald came aboard, were there any other changes to the Doobies besides at lead singer? I think I'm a Tom Johnston fan.

uber-BOS4 Todd "Couldn't I Just Tell You", one of the truly great shouldabeens of all time. What a fabulous 45. It peaked at  #93 (!). For shame, America.
