For this Hits From Hell, I selected ten records that were aired on "Bad Wax" (which I don't believe were selected by DM for Hits From Hell).  I'll post the setlist on Halloween, as not to spoil it for you, if you
listen to it now:

Let me know what you think!

So far, so good: I'm thinking Dave played the TO & Dawn tune at least once (I think he may have done a "career medley" of their hits, like he did for Manilow and Cher). Ditto the Sedaka, David Soul and Frankie Valli. OTOH, "Elusive Butterfly" is one of my favorite songs of all time (the late Scott Muni would've agreed with me). But "Stay Awhile" is truly one of my top 5 HFHs -- a horrid horrid song with horrid horrid vocals.

And I'd forgotten about that "Flower Children" thing -- good gawd. Marcia Strassman, aka Mrs Kotter on Welcome Back Kotter: every nice Jewish boy's dream wife.
Please!  I need the MP3 of the Strassman tune!  I've been looking for that for years for it, but unwilling to buy the whole damn CD I'd seen it on!

Didn't she play Gabe Kaplan's wife on Welcome Back, Kotter?
Let's get right to it.

With the recent passings of Lou Reed and now Bobby Parker, I think I'll be compiling an "In Memoriam" set come Monday.

Any suggestions on what song I should play to represent Lou Reed?

great stuff -- I always loved that underplayed Queen track; "Dynomite" is, well, dyanamite; and "To Each His Own" is a lost early-disco gem.

Patti's "Redondo Beach" always reminds me of Meg Griffin on WNEW-FM -- she used to play that one a lot.  And Macca's lesser-heard LP cuts continue to amaze after all these years.

listening to Heroin from RnR Animal right now.  Great version, but mainly for Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner.

Edit: OK, now listening to Perfect Day

edit 2: use Andy's Chest.  Not only does it rock and have great varied shape, but you can hear Lou's New Yawk accent in when he says certain words, like the word "all" at :30 here >>

hadn't heard that in many a moon.  Reminds me: I'd like to request some Renaissance for your next '73 or '74 excursions. They were HUGE on NYC prog-FM and you never hear them anymore.

That Monkees tune sounded very Buffalo Springfield.

"The monk bought lunch"  -- I referenced "Soft Parade" in my writing a few months back, as my lead character is a lapsed Catholic teen and the bit about "you cannot petition the lord with prayer" really speaks to him.  An amazing track.

That was a Nesmith-produced track from '66 that wasn't released until '69.  I should put together a set of Nesmith-produced '66 Monkees tracks for a themed 10@10 set one day...

Yes!  Matty Groves and Tam Lin got a lot of play on WNEW-FM.  I've long thought that
Come All Ye would make a good TOTHC.  Great album.

I remember that, and yet when I looked at their discography I didn't recognize any of the song
titles, and only a couple of the album covers.  I guess they didn't click with me.  There was a lot
of prog rock in the early '70s, so it was easy to pass on some groups.

The Soft Parade was the second album I bought with my own money.  (I can't remember the
third.)  While long songs weren't entirely unusual, the spoken introduction struck us suburban
kids as a little outre and titillating.  It aired often on the radio, back when eight-minute tracks
were played without a second thought.

Since 1969 had some short *hit* singles, I padded out the set with longer album cuts to balance things out.
