And a def. WOS: Steve Winwood. He did so much better material earlier and later in his career.

Btw, he's playing the Fillmore in September. Tix on sale Sunday. Ditto for David Bromberg, which is something I shan't miss. Bromberg rules.

I heard Bromberg played on KPIG last week -- first time I'd heard him in decades -- and I thought  "whatever happened to him?" He got lots of play on '70s NYC prog FM.

BOS Cameo! what's the word?

So, do all their songs sound like Phish imitating the Dead?   (sorry, that's the impression I got from the promo KFOG was running.)

He kind of retired in the early 90s & moved to Tarrytown NY and learned to make violins. He's just started playing out again in the last couple of years. Saw him in Petaluma last summer and he was great--had his original quartet with him, and his voice was much stronger than it had been a decade before. And he still plays like a mofo.

OK, here's my BOS: Smithereens, Behind the Wall of Sleep.
Let's get right to it.

well, you don't have to think a hard as you do when you listen to phish. it's just jamming stuff. more allman brothers than the dead. don't let the hippie dancers fool you. those boys are southern rock. chico style.

BOS for the Smithereens, not least because my former band, The Random Numbers, used to play it.

BOS Smithereens. Also, this is how my mind worked in 1986, sadly enough.

Speaking of KPIG, which is a fantastic radio station that webcasts at 128KB and sounds great, is anybody going to the KPIG songwriters' festival at Villa Montalvo on the 21st?  My wife and I are going.  Should be a cool time.

since this is probably  a repeat, I'll repeat my comments I probably made before, that this is one of those "perfect songs."

you were in a band? do tell!

We were pretty much a KFOG cover band that played mostly at Stanford campus parties, and a couple times at a dive in Sunnyvale called the Oasis.  We actually had a gig scheduled there when the band disintegrated.  I had to call the owner and tell her we couldn't make it.  They'd already put posters up saying we were coming.  I felt terrible, and still do whenever I think of it.  That was in 1991!  I played guitar and tenor sax and sang, after a fashion.

So, I play bass, what else could we put together? [hint, hint]
