Friday Aug 12--it's 1986!
« on: August 12, 2005, 10:01:17 AM »
And I am thinking this is another original, put in the can in advance--Dave's intro just had that prerecorded feel to it. 1986 on a Friday is weird though.

(Starting the thread since I assume Mshray is still in RWC.)
Let's get right to it.

well, if there's a BOS vote, I'd think it has to be a rerun.

was I think the Hooters, Day by Day, but we're way out of my comfort zone here in 1986.  Some wankers I don't recognize next.  (Apologies to those I've just offended by calling their favorite band wankers)

indeed.  I was expecting perhaps a "Strictly Instrumental" or maybe a Soul Patrol.  2 late-'80s sets in one week is a disappointment either way, even if '69 and '74 were both pretty damn brilliant.

But early BOS Dead or Alive, "Brand New Lover."

I guess I feel expected to  show symptoms of crankypants when in an 80's set.  No offense intended.

I had thought the DorA tune might have been a misplay (Top40Hits has it in 1987, peaked at 18) but Allmusic sez the album was released in 86 so I guess it's fair game. 'Cept I thought the rule was when it charted, not date of release. Except when it suits Dave's purposes.

Agreed about the 69 & 74 sets. The latter gets set o' the week in my book.

ETA: No BOS candidates for me yet, even this Peter Gabriel song (from his worst but most successful solo record).

ETA2: Although I must admit I am enjoying Tony Levin's bass/Chapman Stick playing on this song. Better than some of the other tunes DM could have played I guess. OK, HM.

(Geoff, got a pair of crankypants for me?)

Peter Gabriel, when he got good

a play on the "Genesis, when they were good" riff.  I actually like Peter Gabriel a lot more post-Genesis, than when he was in Genesis.  I guess you could say that pretty much leaves all Genesis out for me!

Actually D or A probably did more than their share of wanking back in the day. So no offense taken

And a def. WOS: Steve Winwood. He did so much better material earlier and later in his career.

Btw, he's playing the Fillmore in September. Tix on sale Sunday. Ditto for David Bromberg, which is something I shan't miss. Bromberg rules.

can't BOS, since he's drowning in 80's here, but general props for his legacy of  work.

Yeah, this sounds like a Phil Collins song.  Almost sounds like the Philster singing backing vocals on it.  Might have to check...Nope, not on there.
