did he play Desire by U2?

or did I dream it?

I don't think so.  He went from the Alarm to "Talkin 'Bout A Revolution".

Or am I hallucinating?

Not a bad start tho--T. Heads' Mr. Jones. One of the better swan-song albums out there. Except that, at least this song, is more indicative of the direction Byrne was heading (Latin music) than a continuation what the Heads had been doing up to that point.

That said, it rocks.

sorry i missed mr. jones. that song always sets me dancing. it might have been my only chance to do so this set.

What a freaking moron.

Of course compared to the current administration, he looks like Albert Einstein.
Let's get right to it.

Yep.

They were really great at Wingding 3 years ago, but broke up for good three months later.

no, but the Alarm were sometimes snarkily referred to as "U3"

aaack! WOS Tracy Chapman!

I was thinking this sounded pretty good compared to the rest.  I was looking at the iTunes 1988 list, and it's pretty depressing.

I've always had issues with Ms Chapman.  I think "Fast Car" is a great song. But virtually everything else in her ouvre is painfully sincere and mediocre IMHO. I think crits went apeshit because she was a young, college-educated black woman who WASN'T doing R&B, and immediately pegged her as the second coming of Joan Armitrading (who was still recording and therefore didn't need someone else to be her second coming). End of rant for now (we'll deal with her sexuality another time).

another HM George. But BOS material, as Geoff indicated, eludes me.

VHM Billy Ocean just for novelty. Dave actually plays a late '80s black person who isn't Tracy Chapman!

i don't know which is worse: having memorised the lyrics to this song, or having memorised the video. ah, the awkward period between pop and techno. "i need more synth!!"

beep, beep, yeah.

When I read Mark's first post, I thought he was referring to Winnipeg, and did not read it as Wingding until Beej's reply!

What was Mark doing in Winnipeg?

That was quite possibly the single greatest achievement by a political staffer in history.  The back story is that one of Benson's people had pretended to be a Republican & had gone to a few Quayle fundraisers before the debate, where the staffer heard him make this comparison. While it is factually true*, a friendly audience, who in their private wet dreams hoped Quayle could be the next JFK, & wouldn't see the utter disconnect inherent in the idea.  So the staffer tipped Benson that Quayle had been going around comparing hisself to JFK, and the rest is history.

*Hillary will also be in exactly the same position in 3 yrs as both Qualye & JFK, i.e. having completed the 2nd year of her 2nd Senate term.  Only diff. being that both DQ & JFK had at least one House term under their belts before the Senate.

ETA:  I was going to agree with the other sentiment tho', Quayle would be an experienced voice of reason in Shrubs cabinet.

{sigh} can i bring you along on every solo gig i ever play so you can explain that?

p.s. armAtrading
p.p.s. what is it with black women who play guitar, and don't play r&b, and wear naturals?

I haven't been listening until now, but New Sensation sounds good, don't it?  So what about Tracy's sexuality?  I hadn't heard anything about it.  I like Joan Armatrading a lot better, by the way.
