Around '78-'79 was the time when I listened to AT40 on a weekly basis -- I was ten. I remember pretty much all of these songs climbing up the chart, especially from the first half of the year, but i can't remember which ones I was rooting for. Sultans of Swing for sure, but I think it stalled out at 4, and John Stewart's Gold, which got to 5. Probably Billy Joel and Foreigner, too, and maybe the singles from The Long Run, based on lingering love for Hotel California. It is wild to see three Bee Gees songs at number one within a few months of each other and remember that their album was considered a disappointment. That's how huge they were in '78. Or maybe it wasn't a commercial disappointment, it's just that the songs aren't nearly as good as the SNF hits.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_in_music#Chronological_table_of_US_and_UK_number_one_hit_singles

68-81 is my happy place. I liked Soul Train and a little bit of AB.
