So I am walking from the BART station to the office this morning and pass an impromptu street vendor selling Niner hats and scarves and I'm inspired to a new song based on a classic CSN&Y song.  Mine will be called "Almost Bought Some Niner Crap" and will chronicle my attempts to climb on the niner bandwagon or at least root for the wheels to stay on the damned thing so that all my niner fan friends can be happy.  But it's hard, and it's not going well.

I will be glad when it's over.

Go Niners.  Really.  I mean it, man!

The Bandwagon is the place to be!   Just bought my ticket!  Go local professional sports team!

Thanks Rod for your at least non-negative response!  One of my students today said she hated the 49ers, because she was a Raiders fan!

So, as my employers are cracking down on streaming etc... I'll be commenting on the "other" 10@10s when possible but not listening to them. Only KFOG's (over-the-air) is one I'll be listening to, at least for the time being. Once I upgrade to a smart phone in a month or 2, I'll be back to listening to streaming audio (I hope).  I'll also be avoiding FB during working hours.

you may want to get a plan with unlimited data.  Using the wifi at work (if you have it) still goes through their filters.  Having said that, let's hope you can get a cell signal on whatever floor you work on!

didn't know where to put this (I mentioned it on FB too) but.. within the last couple of days, Amazon raised their shipping rates.  I ordered a CD over the weekend and the shipping was the usual 2.98... as of today it's 3.99!

My private (Catholic) high school has reached a milestone anniverary and in
response they've put out an alumni newsletter recalling notable memories and
achievements.  To my surprise I find that Bruce Springsteen played at a school
dance in 1972.  That was during the school year I attended my only "mixer," as
they were known, but I'm sure I didn't go to that one.

More telling is the complete lack of mention of the school's most famous alumnus.
Oh, they used to tout his accomplishments, but then a few years ago he came out
and admitted he was gay.  Now it's like he never existed.  Shame on them.

I'm far from a biblical scholar, but I'm pretty sure Jesus never condemned
homosexuality.  That was some crap from the Old Testament.  That's were I think
most Christians get it all wrong.  Christianity is about the teachings of
Christ, not the muddled mess that came before.

I know! I know! Although, there was a lot of non-gay related scandal surrounding him too.

(Isn't Jon Bon Jovi more famous than him, though?  Although, I'm not sure if JBJ technically qualifies as an alumnus.)

Jim McGreevey? Yeah, if that's correct, I'd definitely say Jon Bon Jovi is the more famous one.

McGreevey is a tad creepy. As a gay guy I really wanted to like him when he came out, despite the scandal with the aide. And I admire the work he's doing with female ex-cons (I think that's his thing; he was on the Daily Show or Colbert a while back).  But these high-profile gay men who profess celibacy are just not serving the cause, IMHO (Tim Gunn is another one -- oh gurlfriend, puh-leeze). It seems more than a bit self-hating. "Maybe straight people will like me if I don't have sex!"

Is there a term for someone who is neither gay nor straight, just not interested in sex with anybody?

I believe that's "asexuals". It' a real thing, per Psychology Today.

It turns out that radical347 doesn't know somebody at the NSA.  Of course fans of The Bruce
have obsessively documented his every appearance, and I guess he didn't play that many
high schools even in his early days.  It doesn't take an advanced belt in google-fu to go from
there.

I did gloss over a lot of that imbroglio... but perhaps if he hadn't had to maintain the facade
of a straight life and could have been out, he wouldn't have felt the need to set up his aide
in a cushy job.  Although it's hardly the first time a politician has done that.

(Isn't Jon Bon Jovi more famous than him, though?  Although, I'm not sure if JBJ technically qualifies as an alumnus.)

I guess it depends on how strictly you want to define alumnus.  I would say he wasn't, which
in turn disqualifies me from saying the same about a couple of colleges I attended.  That didn't
stop the editors of the aforementioned newsletter from including a picture of him playing a guitar
as a student.

I would wager that in New Jersey McGreevey is more recognized than Bon Jovi.  And while he
was making world headlines with his impropriety, he possibly had more name recognition
nationally as well.  There are lots of younger people, older people, and people not steeped in
American culture who are more likely to know the name of the head of their state government
than that of a rock star whose popularity peaked twenty to thirty years ago.
