urth, I forgot to mention that they were one of the best live acts and Curt Kirkwood THE most insanely gifted musician I've ever seen.

I'll second that.  This was the year I started listening to radio and it so reminded me of Hits 106.  They had the Green Day, Collective Soul, Nirvana, Hole, Alice in Chains, Des'ree, and Meat Puppets songs on their playlist.  AL still should have played Real McCoy or Ini Kamoze.  Or Headline News by Weird Al.

You'd get no argument from me. I saw 'em a number of times in the early to mid-90s, and was pretty blown away by the interplay between the two Kirkwood brothers. I'm glad to see that Cris has shaken his addictions and they've reformed the band (albeit with a different drummer), and I have heard they're playing well. Can't say I've seen 'em though--they've only played Portland a couple of times and never on a night I could get out to see them.

Listening to Alice in Chains on the replay, and feel I gotta add a RIP to Layne Staley, who wasn't so fortunate in his battle with heroin.

Let's get right to it.
