Does KFOG play new music anymore?  :-\

Checking their playlist, they have under 30 "current" songs and that includes songs that aren't really current anymore i.e. "Strange Overtones," "Come On Get Higher," "I Will Possess Your Heart," "You Found Me." (And why are they hanging onto that one?  The Fray has had 2 singles since that they haven't touched!)

And some of the songs they have added recently they added after they were no longer new (I think the only truly 'new' song they added recently was "Fugitive" by David Gray).  They added Gomez and the Airborne Toxic Event in what, May?  They played "Sometime Around Midnight" on the new music hour back in September!!!

Awhile back one Thursday morning I heard Kelly Ransford play "Old White Lincoln" by the Gaslight Anthem and gush about how it was perfect on KFOG. (Which it was.) I never heard it again except in the sideshow or new music hours.

Even the new music hour has gotten stale.  They're playing songs they played 6 months ago too.  The station is becoming unlistenable except during their speciality programming...and I used to listen to it almost 24/7.

What gives?  I heard their PD (or is it MD) got the boot a few months ago and they don't have one now...could this be why?

You have hit the nail on the head on all counts. Drives me crazy how they call something "new music" that's 6 months (or more) old. I rarely listen to KFOG outside of an hour when I get up (6-7) and 10@10. The repetition is mind-boggling, that Fray song in particular must get played 5 or 6 times a day, along with Snow Patrol's "Crack the Shutters". Not to mention all the Feist-alikes. And this all pre-dates the exit of their PD. Kelly's the MD, and there's a disconnect between what she likes (and plays on the Sideshow) and what is in heavy rotation for months at a time.

OMG do I *love* this one.  It's Little Steven's "Coolest Song in the World" this week -- love the song and the vid with this amazing woman lead singer.  It's like Duffy and Adele meet '60s girl group/Motown. The Noisettes, "Never Forget You". KFOG needs to jump on this immediately.

Catapulted instantly into my Top 20 of the year so far.  Thanks!

TANC: I was just turned onto this album a couple of weeks ago. The version of "Moonshadow" is stupendous!

Don't remember what thread it was -- I'm guessing the CG/WLNG/etc one -- but somebody had played "The Need To Be" by Jim Weatherly, who wrote Gladys' "Midnite Train to GA", "Best Thing That Ever Happened" and "Neither One of Us". And I commented that I wish Ms Knight had recorded "Need to Be" as well -- it seemed made for her. Well, she finally has, on the sndtk to the new Tyler Perry opus, I Can Do Bad All By Myself.

Alas, nope.  She didn't ask the man in her heart for the answers.

Just saw that Rhino (or what's left of it) is putting out the next installment in the Nuggets series this year, focusing on the LA music scene ca. 1965-68. Track listing and samples here:

Let's get right to it.
