This show seems like it might be the best non-KFOG 10@10. Sentimentality and homerism aside, RGMike, which of the two do you think is better?
KFOG's has always been the first and best, clearly -- even if DC is doing his best to dumb it down lately. The Peak's is in 2nd place; Rob Arrow, the host, is roughly my age and grew up listening to the same radio stations I did in NYC, so (esp in '60s/'70s/'80s) he will always pull out a NY-based obscurity. He's at his best in late-'70s/early-'80s sets where he tends to favor CBGBs-flavored punk/new wave and he loves him some Garland Jeffreys and Southside Johnny. His sets are also month-specific, as in "this is what was on the radio in Oct of 1977". Which cuts down on repetition, for one thing.
The Drive and The Sound are both Classic Rock stations, owned by the same people and draw on the same database of songs. It's rare that they play anything too obscure. Austin "Bob" is one of those "Jack"-format stations and their 9@9 is the most pop-chart-oriented.
We used to listen to a 10@10 in Boulder, CO on KBCO -- it was also right up there with KFOG's, as far as playing interesting forgotten songs. They discontinued it a couple years ago, sadly, as did KINK in Portland (DC's old station).
