JJ was kicking ace this morning.  He took his inspiration from Bert Bell, the recently-departed jock who worked locally and apparently was some kind of institution.  

I wish he pub'd a playlist b/c I can't remember most the stuff he played, but it's one of the best two hours of radio in the bay area.

2NG's retro-chart is from Sept 1968 today. Some interesting obscurities along with the obvious hits like (yes) "Hey Jude". TWO versions of "Dream a Little Dream of Me"!

OMFG: 2 cuts from Ogden's Nut Gone Flake in one morning! Small Faces "Universal" is NTM, as is the Equals' "Laurel & Hardy". Ray Charles' superb cover of "Eleanor Rigby" is an early BOS.

Elvis' "Your Time Hasn't Come Yet" is NTM and sounds like something Bobby Vinton would reject as too cutesy/schmaltzy.

OMGWTF: a group called Grapefruit covering the 4 Seasons' "C'mon Marianne" rather slavishly.

ooo! proxy of Gaz, 4 Tops' "Yesterday's Dreams".

holee crap: early Vanity Fare, covering the Sunray's 1965 US hit "I Live For the Sun" -- had no idea this existed.

Nothing that really cries out to me in the 2nd half of this chart so I'll subject myself to 1992 on KFOG.

Listening to this week's Little Steven show -- his annual tribute to NYC.  fabulous stuff and one of my favorite of his theme shows each year. Not to be missed.

Holee crap: Genya Ravan has done a cover of the never-need-to-hear-again Lee Michaels "Do Ya Know What I Mean" and made it worth hearing again.
