This has the makings of a great survey question – name someone who is great in concert, not so much in the studio. Or vice versa.

This is the classic Grateful Dead dichotomy.  I actually like most of their studio albums, but many deadheads just think they suck compared to live versions.

Funny -- Dave Marsh says the opposite.  ;)

The list of guitarists posted by AL:

I attempted to vote for Richard Thompson, because I figured the other two I'd most likely vote for (Beck and Zappa) had better chances of being chosen. Unfortunately, AL's wonky app didn't count my vote. C'est la vie.
Let's get right to it.

Hmmm, did AL say its based on her poll?  I'd imagine its just ten random examples.  Wonder if we'll hear anything truly interesting/unexpected?

I'm listening halfheartedly because I'm not a big guitar-solo guy; if I had made a request, it would have been for Mick Taylor's work on "Time Waits for No One" that we just discussed recently.  I'm also big on Craig Chaquico's work, especially on the Spitfire album, but I'm largely alone in that.

Good point!  It's both George and Eric, but EC handles the lead:

Heh. I'll actually VHM Jerry, much to Geoff's surprise. This was the period when I found the Dead and Dead-related stuff more than tolerable.
