Who says you can't get something for nothing?  Now you can get it at Amazon.  Read the customers reviews.

technically, this is "nothing for something". ;)

Ben Folds' tribute to the improv piano guy on ChatRoulette. Or maybe he IS the improv piano guy on ChatRoulette.

quote of the day, from Larry Grogan (of the Funky 16 Corners soul music blog), reacting to someone calling Will.I.Am the true successor to Sly Stone:

"The Black Eyed Peas are one of the worst popular bands in history. They're like a science fiction minstrel show."

I don't really agree, but that's a hell of a line!

I've been ruminating on this for a while.  Having trouble arguing against that provocative second sentence, having just watched the videos for two of their songs that I enjoy, "Shut Up" and "Hey Mama."  Warrants a BIBT entry that I don't feel equipped yet to write.

I've not seen either video, but I've always had a problem taking them seriously, considering they had to have it explained to them that "Let's Get Retarded" might be, y'know, offensive. OTOH, I'm sure some people called ParliaFunkadelicMent "a science fiction minstrel show" at some point.

Quote of the week, from Tim Goodman. I often disagree with him about TV, but he's dead-on here about a certain airheaded music celeb:

Quote
The fact that the CW trotted out Katy Perry to kick off its fall TV schedule says pretty much all you need to know about the network. It perfectly sets the divide between people who can see her transparent lack of talent and packaged-for-the-masses vapidness from those who haven't lived long enough to share the same opinion and thus think she's original, entertaining and inspirational.
