I invented a drinking game for this song.

After everyone has had a couple & is loosened up, play "Sympathy..." and everyone has to try to be a perfect background singer when the woo-oo-oo's start.  This is a lot harder than it sounds, with everyone trying it is sure be one of those things where it is really hard to keep a straight face.  The last one to keep up the woo-oo-oo's wins.

no respect for the dead?
...for the dead?
...or for The Dead?
Just because I'm gullible, I was not talking about the Dead (I know the respect they get around here   ) I was talking about the lead singer, Al Wilson, who committed suicide.
what was his method?

brief googling says a mystery, maybe OD.

A different website says he OD'ed on barbituates during a camping trip.  RIP, Big Al.  I still hate your singing voice, though.

That's closer to what I remember.  I remembered something about a forest.

BOS2 Mr Cash! Awesome.

Lance Niekro of the Giants is apparently a big Johnny fan... they played a different Cash song before each of his at-bats on Sunday.

Hey Mike I forgot to say thanks for thinking of me with that ticket.  I couldn't have gotten away for a night game, but I appreciated the thought.

You were there too? Guess I shouldn't be surprised. Sarah & I were in our seats in 312. Pretty good game, could have had a much better outcome if Alex Sanchez had brought his glove without the hole in it.
Let's get right to it.

we were in the very top row of 324.  Mr Sanchez was the object of many jeers up our way.
