dang, I was so certain she'd do an Oscar/movie themed set that I didn't even try to make a b-day request.

Pick your fave '85 song and e-mail it to her--she could call an audible, she's done it before!

okay, just did.  If we hear "Let's Go All The Way" or "When Smokey Sings" it will be my gift from Annalisa.

I'll see you and raise you a BOS.  Very much a zeitgeist song for me.

I always liked "Some Like It Hot" even though rhyming words with themselves is a pet peeve of mine: "the heat is on" and "they can't go on," f'rex.

And here's Power Station, again for the second time this week--Larry played it in LA a couple days ago. (Not quite the rarity that Carl Carlton is, but still...)
Let's get right to it.

There's your Oscar Tie-in -- Chevy Chase in Fletch!

I actually watched it the other day.  Big time Beverly Hill Cop rip-off.  Kinda funny.

Kevin Smith has been circling a Fletch remake/reboot for some time now. Well, it has to be better than Cop Out...

Is this David Gilmour doing song #3? I don't recognize the song, but it sounds kinda like him singing.

sounds a lot more like Bruce Cockburn to me, but that's not a definitive answer.

Definitely Gilmour, though I didn't recognize it.

Just checked AMG, neither had an album out in '85, but both did in '84, and BC also had one in '86.  But I know both those Cockburn albums quite well, so I think it must not be him.  If it's Gilmour, perhaps it is the track called "Murder".

Sly Fox charted across the new year, so it's legal, but big oops on the ABC.  I will have to consider BAD as my special song, and maybe a slight nod to the movies afterall.

Yeah, I listened to that one and it seemed like a likely candidate.  I can't remember a single thing about the song now.

I think Fletch is hilarious.  I don't see it as a BHC rip-off at all.  Ya gotta like Chevy Chase to enjoy it, that's for sure. A lot.  Of course, the love interest is plenty hot too.

Whether or not that's the right ID, the guest musicians on the Gilmour album are noteworthy.

Per AMG:
"Gilmour has a stellar band backing him, including Jeff Porcaro (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), and Anne Dudley (synthesizer)...including the gorgeous "Murder," a gentle acoustic track that explodes with some fiery organ by Steve Winwood and concludes with a fierce coda."
"Music is the Earth, People are the Flowers, and I am the Hose."
