"eliminate the ninnies and the twits!"  --LOL! a segue worthy of the master himself! Kudos, AL.

Of course as I'm Googling, I listen for a few seconds and realize it must be Devo.

That Steve Winwood song falls into the category of "songs with a super-cool intro that end up boring the hell out of me after the first few seconds." (Along with Pearl Jam "Better Man," Mariah Scary "Fantasy," and a few others.)

That's a great category! I'll have to think of some others...
Funny, I've always called her "Pariah Carey". :)

Dude! It's prog rock!

and willfully obscure prog rock, at that.  Geddy sings, and dogs everywhere start chasing their tails.

Maybe Mariah should've run for gov instead of Mary Carey.

God, love this riff.  And I've never really been into Rush. (Loved their hilarious appearance on Colbert where they faked playing an extended jam so long that Colbert went to bed in the studio and woke up or their finish at the beginning of his next show)

an artful example of the genre. BOS3 to an ATBB, methinks.

Does Destroyer borrow a bassline from "All Day and All Night", and reference Lola?

Wikipedia confirms:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destroyer_(The_Kinks_song)

Not just bassline, whole riff.  Right.
