CG/KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc for the weeks of 3/9/09 & 3/16/09

Haven't had a lot of time to do my usual play-by-play of Judge's Monday jam, but it's been fab as usual. Right now: Marvin sez "Come Get to This", one of my very favorite of his lesser chart hits.

Lawd! Barbara Acklin's "Am I The Same Girl?" -- the record whose instrumental backing track became Young-Holt Unltd's "Soulful Strut".  Either version is a delight and totally makes my morning.  (Swingout Sister did a nice cover of this in the early '90s.)

"but honey... he's not our kind"

'LNG plays the great "Society's Child"

followed by Lezzie Gore, "You Don't Own me"

(it's a Women's History Month thang, y'all)

and for the "I Didn't Know That" file -- the same organist played the similar codas on "Society's Child" and the Raiders' "Indian Reservation"!

Wow, that's interesting - I always assumed Janis did her own coda ("look how precocious I am!) and that Paul Revere did the finish on IR.

Love that one.  (And it's yet another song covered by Sweet-Hoffs, I must add.)

OMGWFTLOL-of-the-Month: listening to CG's retro chart (from March 1978) and here's Tom Robinson band with "Don't Take No For an Answer" -- haven't heard this great song in ages. And it's uncensored, no less!

06.  Brotherhood Of Man - Figaro

Wow, I was wondering if this was son-of-"Angelo," and that doesn't come close to doing justice.

Unflattering pantsuits and a terrible transition from bridge to chorus (can someone who knows music theory tell me why it's wrong?).  And sorry, Agentha II on the left is fine, but the gal on the right looks too much like Deputy Wiegel from Reno 911.
