Alanis, "You Oughta Know"
ABBA, "Dancing Queen"
Enigma, "Sadeness"
Stones, "It's Only RnR"

Barry Scott's doing an hour of songs that peaked at #41.  First up, Tony Tribe (?) with a reggae version of "Red Red Wine" from 1969 that I had no idea existed.

He's got the potion and the motion: First Choice's "Dr. Love" is NTM, and surely deserved better.  Fer crissakes, KISS's Dr. Love made the Top 40!

There will never be another moment in radio history when Cat Stevens' "Banapple Gas" is followed by Jermaine Stewart's "The Word Is Out."

This was astonishing enough that I'll repost: Richard Cocciante, "When Love Has Gone Away."

OMGWTFLOL-of the Month: Betty LaVette doing a Soul cover of "Just Dropped In To See What Condition..." from back in '68 -- NTM and a total gas.

I didn't know she got her big break from Kenny Rogers' brother, who signed her to his fledgling label in '68.

ETA: if you saw the pre-inaugural concert in Jan, Ms. LaVette sang "A Change is Gonna Come" with Jon Bon Jovi.

another for the "I didn't Know that" file... Sam the Sham did the orig version of "Apple Peaches Pumpkin Pie" -- they called it "Ready or Not" and it flopped , then Jay & the Techniques came along.

Teen-dreaminess on 'LNG: the Chiffons' "I Have a Boyfriend", a Little Steven fave that I've come to love.

NTM: Keith, with one of his sound-alike follow-ups to "98.6", "Daylight Savings Time". (more time for love, per the lyrics)

Bummer: suddenly the CG player (which I just used last week) is asking me for a username and password -- tried the email and password I use to log into the website itself, but nothing. I emailed them; we'll see what if any response I get.

TANC: last week Gaz & I discussed MOR singers making '70s comebacks, and here's Perry Como on 'LNG with his lovely 1973 cover of Don MacLean's "And I Love You So", which actually benefits from the fact that Como was in his early '60s when he recorded it.  A fine chart swan-song.

OMGWTF -- 'LNG plays Henry Gross' (unfairly maligned, IMHO) "Shannon", which I haven't heard since the last time Dave played it as an HFH.

is this the one that goes "Shannon is gone, I heard she's drifting out to sea..." in falsetto?

I loved that song.

Yup. Written about his dead dog. Lotsa people just seem to HATE it.  Mr Gross was a former member of Sha-Na-Na, amazingly, and his follow-up, the decidedly more upbeat "Springtime Mama" (which actually scratched the bottom of the Top 40) is a great lost hit:
