Here you go, six pictures from new comic book where Spiderman saves the day at Obama's inauguration, as an imposter tries to take Obama's place:

Oh wow, I had no idea about this!  Thanks!  (My brother and nephew are HUGE Spider-Man fanatics.)

A group from Portland called The Get A Life Marching Band has been invited to participate in Obama's inaugural parade next week in DC. They were asked to play a song that was written in Oregon, so they're doing Louie, Louie. As a medley with We're An American Band (which, to my knowledge, was NOT written in Oregon).
Let's get right to it.

My brother's band does a really good medley of Louie Louie with Wild Thing.

As the one here who groused most loudly about the Rick Warren thing, I must say this is good news, assuming it actually happens:

I thought of you when I read about this in the paper this morning!  I'm hoping he makes it happen too.  Clinton tried, but ran into a firestorm.  I liked the fact that the article had some accompanying poll graphics showing how times have changed.

Even more good Obama/GLBT news: Gene Robinson, the openly gay Episcopal bishop from New Hampshire, is giving the invocation at this weekend's Inauguration Concert Thingy (Springsteen, etc).

Saw him tonite on Rachel Maddow's show, he was VERY cool.

But! He will not invoke the name Jesus in his inaugural prayer. Instead he's going to pray to the "god of our understandings," whatever that might be. Which sits just fine with me, but might be misconstrued by the fundies in some fashion.

ETA: Forgot to add a personal aside to this: I did a double-take when I first read the initial post, as I had a friend in college named Gene Robinson who was somewhat religious, and who several of us thought was likely to be closeted. The bishop in New Hampshire definitely is not him, however, as my friend is black, and the last time I saw him he had an amazingly hot blonde wife. So much for our instincts.

I realize the alternative but are you folks a bit disappointed that so far Obama seems to be a moderate as opposed to a progressive/liberal?

I'm too old and cynical to believe any president can be overly progressive/liberal. To a large extent, people (esp the young) read whatever they wanted into the notion of "change". Actually (my Rick Warren complaints aside) I generally like the idea of a center-left pragmatist who confounds people on both sides.

I was hoping for something more "Wild in the Streets," myself.   ;)

The Warren dustup aside, I think Obama's style of governing will be so diametrically different to the "if you're not with us you're agin' us" ethos of the past administration that he'd have to turn into Josef Stalin for me to be very disappointed. Besides, I don't expect that he'd try to enact broad change right away, let alone in his first months in office. However, over the broader spectrum of what will hopefully be two terms, I think that there will be some significant changes from what we've seen over the past 8 years.
Let's get right to it.

Agreed, but that's Number Two.  Number One is, he is a guy who really thinks for himself, as opposed to someone who does what he's told (...by Rove, by Cheney, etc.)

Indeed, that was my argument to undecideds thru the campaign -- "after 8 years of Uncurious George, how about a SMART person in the White House? What a concept!"

My more serious answer is that the older I get, the more amenable I am to compromise; and as others have said above, I'm trying to look at the broader 8-year picture.  Millions upon millions were hoodwinked by the last Administration (not to mention a bunch of religious leaders and intemperate pundits) into divisive ideas about what it means to be a person, to be moral, to be free.  That damage needs to be undone before we as a nation can really move in a progressive direction.  (IMNSHO)
