Mondegreens are at their best when they are at their silliest.

Oh, I agree -- silly mondegreens are the best mondegreens.  In this case we're talking about a mondegreen in which one option ("county fair") seems quite obviously right (and IS, according to every lyric site) because, well, you *would* go to a county fair in the summertime. But in comparison "county pear" as a phrase doesn't exist in anyone's lexicon. Does that make sense, or am I totally beating a dead horse?

In other words: "county pear" isn't silly enuf to be a good "silly" mondegreen.
