10-way tie, but Uber-BOS to David Ruffin, "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left)."  Nice metacommentary for Ruffin's first post-Tempts single.

BOSFRA, We've only heard this twice this decade, near as I can tell.

Rascals get psychedelic!  (I saw original lineup in NJ in '88, along with Donovan, John Sebastian and Tommy James & Shondells)

VHM Moodies, "Dear Diary", a onetime Katrina that we haven't heard much lately.

Here's the story behind my well-established affection for the Moodies, and it centers on this song.

When I was about 12 I convinced my folks (mostly my dad) that we really needed a modern stereo system, not the old wooden cabinet all-in-one console that we still had since 1966.  There was a midnight sale, and you could get an additional 5% off if you showed up in your pajamas.  Not surprisingly my dad was the only one in his pj's but hey, we saved about $15.

So I was just beginning to get some of my own albums, and one of the first was Days of Future Past, because I had always liked "Nights in White Satin" (which you'll recall had charted in 1972,and so was still getting airplay).  We were living in a 3-story townhouse and our new neighbors upstairs on the 3rd floor came by one time & the husband saw my DoFP LP and said something complimentary about it to my dad.  I said, that's not his record, it's MINE.  He laughed and told me to come upstairs anytime I wanted to browse his record collection, and the first thing he did was go upstairs and immediately return with about 5 Moodies LP's.  And for some reason "Dear Diary" was the track that made the immediate impression, but I played them all incessantly until he finally asked for them back.
