Dunno if anyone else here besides me and Urth listens to Vin Scelsa on WFUV, either via live stream or podcast, but he has recently cut his Sat nite show back to 2 hours from 4.

Now, I thought I remembered that after his surgery 4 years ago (?) he cut back from 4 hours "live" to a first-2-hours "live"/last-2-hours recorded thing. (Per Wiki, some permutation of this was still going on recently.) Whatever -- his Facebook page hasn't been updated since last year either.  But, as is the Scelsa way, he turned this whole decision into an existential crisis that took weeks to resolve, and it forced 'FUV to bring in syndicated programming to replace the missing 2 hours.  I've always loved the guy, but come on -- it's 4 freakin' hours of radio, dude.

Hate to say it, but that does sound pretty Vin-like. He's a radio genius, but he's pretty neurotic, too, so I can believe this scenario. I haven't listened to him much since the business kicked into gear in the spring, so I'll have to dig around a little and see what I can find.

His show is still avaialble as a podcast on the wfuv.org website, for several weeks after it airs.

Just saw that Mickey Luckoff, who's been at the helm of KGO/KSFO radio for the past 35 years, announced his resignation abruptly today, with no further explanation.

Time to retire, I guess -- 35 years in one place, and Citadel (KGO's current owners) are belt-tightening and cost-cutting up the wazoo.

Sunday is 10/10/10. remember when KFOG used to do 10@10s all day on 10/10? Dunno if they're doing that this year (if they were I think they'd've promoted it by now) but the Drive is doing a 10@10 marathon all day Sunday.

So I'm in a fruit'n'vegetable market in the Mission that always plays KOIT. And the KOIT deejay says "with so many stations changing their music, isn't it nice to know you can count on KOIT?"   Er... what stations are "changing their music"? News to me.

Hey Mike, Big Rick just changed his FB status to "Stunner in bay area radio today. Dang and stuff." Any clue what he's talking about?
Let's get right to it.

ha!  that was good.  I heard that and thought he was referring to when Terry Gross was pushing about info on the 'rift' between him and Mick.  he got a little curt with her at that point, if you recall,  basically saying  "geez, lady, it's not that unusual, and people should buy the book to find out the details.."

Not a clue. Nothing on the radio-info.com SF board as of this moment. Hrm.

ETA: Big Rick followed that comment (on Twitter) with "Not about me" -- guess some folks thought he got fired or something. But nothing elsewhere indicates any breaking radio story.

Others were pestering him for more info but now Rick's saying it's someone else's news, and he's not going to bust it until they do. OK, fair enough, but then whydafuck didja say anything in the first place?

ETA: OK, he posted a link to AllAccess, so I assume he's talking about this:

well, if that's it, it's... er... interesting but not exactly "stunning". Exaggerate much?

Ah, I believe it's what that article didn't say that was the stunning part: Dave Logan got the boot from KKSF.

ah, OK.  Funny, the guy replacing him comes from 98.1 Kiss, which apparently has improved ratings since accenting the "old school".  I nearly posted the other day that I was in the car Sun afternoon and noticed that their Tony Sandoval Oldies show is apparently a thing of the past, now that they're "old school" all the time.
