LIVE 105's 20th Anniversary:

This Sunday, Live 105 will celebrate its 20th birthday. Starting at noon they will be doing countdowns of the top 10 songs from each individual year since 1986.  Talk about a vertical tasting! Could be fun!

damn, i'll be missing that!  I hope they post the lists.  I doubt I'll actually be worried about this while I'm in Chicago, but that would be a perfect afternoon of music for me.

I don't think that is in the feel good range for me. I am not a rhythmic contemporary adult! I refuse.

It's "Resurrection Sunday" on Live 105:  all '80s & '90s Alternative "classics" all day long.

Midnight Oil, Blur, Smiths, Pixies, Elvis C. and Devo all in the last half-hour.  Great stuff.

Live 105 is also sponsoring a "Halloween Freakout" concert featuring Devo, Bow Wow Wow, and Animotion next Saturday.

very interesting:

KMBY in Monterey has switched to a format it calls "The Revolution" -- a 50/50 mix of hip-hop and rock.  From Green Day to Tupac to Rage Against the Machine. Never been done before, at least commercially

They'll be streaming soon.

98.5 K-FOX is doing "Beatles Family Album A to Z", meaning Beatles plus selected solo Beatle songs mixed in. (But not that many, from what I heard).

Somebody call Beej!!

"Movin'", the station formerly known as KFRC, is running TV spots for the new format -- one of the songs they feature is Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back".

Pretty big news:  two big companies are trading stations...

Bonneville gets stations in Seattle and Cincinnati. While Entercom gets the Bonneville station group in San Francisco - KOIT, KDFC and KMAX.

That's pretty amazing, as KOIT is one of the most successful stations in the country -- for years it's been nicknamed "The Mormon Money Machine" (Bonneville is owned by the Church of LDS).

This could be fun to listen to, while it lasts: SF's newest radio station, KTRB, signs on at midnite tonite and at 6am begins stunting with "The San Francisco Sound". From a press release...

Something old is new again, as one of Northern California’s pioneer radio stations, KTRB-AM 860, makes its historic Bay Area debut by bringing “The San Francisco Sound” back to the nation’s fourth-largest radio market beginning this Thursday, February 1, 2007.

KTRB-AM 860 will sign-on at midnight on February 1, and beginning at 6:00 a.m. that day, the station will play continuous music reprising the late 60s and early 70s heyday of “The San Francisco Sound.”

“The San Francisco Sound” refers to rock music performed live and recorded by San Francisco-based artists and groups from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s.   KTRB-AM 860 will showcase seminal Bay Area bands such as The Beau Brummels, The Syndicate of Sound, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother & The Holding Company, as well as Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Journey.

KTRB-AM 860 Vice President & General Manager Jim P. Pappas said, “Our sign-on in the Bay Area is the culmination of three decades of dreaming, planning, and hard work by the best and brightest from inside and outside our company.  KTRB-AM 860 represents the genesis of our company’s more than 50-year California-based broadcast tradition.  It was KTRB that inspired the three Pappas Brothers to become broadcasters. We are thrilled to own and operate a 50,000 Watt blowtorch that will serve the millions of residents in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and the entire Bay Area, just as KTRB-AM 860 has served generations of Californians since its founding in 1933.”

KTRB-AM 860’s permanent format will commence March 1, 2007.  While plans have not been disclosed, Pappas said, “KTRB will bring a fresh sound to the Bay Area to add diversity to the choices available to the public.  KTRB will entertain and inform with fresh, lively content, the likes of which the public does not now have available.”

No word on what that "permanent" format will be; speculation (based on what the owners have done elsewhere) is that it'll be conservative talk, but we've got 2 of those already.

Their intro format sounds like KFRC for hippies.

What station are they taking over? I don't recall if there was someone at 860 on the AM side before, since most of my AM listening consists of KCBS in the car and KNBR during baseball season, with bits of KPIG thrown in here and there.
Let's get right to it.

Actually, they're not taking over anything -- KTRB 860 was in Modesto, they've moved their transmitter in order to blanket SF with whatever format they come up with.

"ksol the revival" is called 98.1 Kiss, isn't it?

FYI, KTRB 860 is officially on the air as "The Heavy 860" playing SF artists.  No website, I'll have to wait until I get home tonite.

listened in the car for a while today.  While it's extremely narrow, it's also extremely rare.  I heard several Country Joe, and Janis tunes, and an Airplane segue My Best Friend/Watch Her Ride that floored me.  Where else am I going to hear these tracks?  Heard some Sly, some TOP.  In my car, they seem to be missing one channel of the music at times, like KPIG.
Don't stand in the way of LOVE!
