27 March 2008--it's 1979
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:57:31 AM »
And the set is starting five minutes early! I was taking care of a few things away from my desk right before the hour so I'd be back in time for the set and arrived back here at 9:56 just in time to hear Don announce the year.
Let's get right to it.

BTW, "I Do the Rock" is the working title of the novel I started working on last year but is now on hiatus.

Who's blowing sax on there?  Reminds me of the SNL band of that era.

Annalisa will be upset -- she can't play it as a bonus now. Stimulating... stimulating... Sun-SHINE!

ah, but here's "I Don't Like 'Trinas".

Oddly -- both songs show up 5 times in the db (today makes 6 each). Yet "IDLM" seems far more Katrina-y than "IDTR".

you'll recall this song was inspired by what a girl who did a school shooting said in response to "why?", "because I don't like Mondays"

Vin Scelsa called "IDLM" the "rock equivalent of a ripped-from-the-headlines TV movie"

Pink Floyd, ripping off a snippet of melody from Chicago's "Old Days" intro.

I was in St. Louis, a junior in HS, and only remembered that it was in CA somewhere, sort of had it as San Diego all these years.  Thanks for the correction.  Still one of the very rare instances is where it wasn't a male who went postal.

Actually you were right--it was in San Diego. Wayback corrected himself before we could do it for him. The one in Stockton came sometime later--in the 80s?
