Awesome -- it's the Top 40 Singles of the YEAR for 1971! This was before Casey started doing 2-part "Top 80" or "Top 100" year-enders. Too bad they don't replay his "Top 40 Xmas Songs" countdowns (he did several of those in the '70s).

Chico is replaying a '77 set from a few weeks ago.  Ah well.
Weird: At 10:30 it switched over to the correct countdown.  Here's Daddy Dewdrop, beating out the Carpenters' lovely (if refrainless) "For All We Know."

agree 100%.  My favorite parts of the AT40s are usually the early sections, which often give us songs that just jumped into the charts for s brief period, only to fall right out again.   The regular weekly countdowns also "transport" me back in time more effectively than the special countdowns can, which I dig (probably too much, actually... ;)  )

Top 2's some combination of Carpenters, CCR, Bee Gees, and Elvis.  I'm guessing Carps @ 2 and Elvis @ 1.  (3DN came in at #3.)

and Elvis was nowhere to be found -- no surprise, really, he only had 3 top ten singles betw '70 and '75, one of which was a '69 leftover.

On the Sirius/XM version of Casey's 70's show last weekend (in between Christmas and New Years), they had the top 40 songs of 1973. The #2 song of the year was a song that only hit #16 (Why Me by Kris Kristofferson). Casey said it was because it was on the chart so long (38 weeks on the Hot 100).

SFGuy!  Welcome back - it's been a while since I've seen you here on the board; I hope you had a great holiday season and a triff New Year's.

Casey's '80s leap to Jan. 23, 1982, as ONJ tries (and fails) for week #10 at No. 1, which would have tied the then record for length of stay at the throne.  (The record is currently held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men, with 16 weeks at the top for "One Sweet Day.")

I completely misremembered this count: ONJ does indeed make week #10 with "Physical," which tied "You Light Up My Life" for longest reign in the rock era - Elvis's "Hound Dog"/"Don't Be Cruel" had 11 weeks, but was apparently considered pre-rock era.
