Hour 2: the Honey Cone... they're so stuck-up!

BOS9 ONJ's underrated cover of "If Not For You" -- quite sweet IMHO.

VHM Delaney & Bonnie's "Never-Ending Pasta Bowl of Love"

yikes: short version of "Won't Get Fooled".

JB has Hot Pants; Ms King has 3 compositions in the Top 40; Tom Clay has his 15 minutes of fame -- wow, they played the loooong version.

WOS "Swedish-a Hykah"

1982 Hour 1: Paul Davis covering the Friends of Distinction?? A very white version of "Love or Let Me Be Lonely" leads off at #40.

Randy Meisner with one of his forgettable solo hits.  VHM Ray Parker's "Let Me Go" (NOT the Heaven 17 song).

BOS1 Joan Jett -- yes, Joanie, I wanna touch!

Marshall Crenshaw's "Someday Someway" actually made the Top 40!

Hour 2 leads off with the uber-LN "Tainted Love", but -- OMFG -- here's Jermaine Jackson's collab with Devo (!) "Let Me Tickle Your Fancy". uber-BOS2 and a highlight of a somewhat boring chart.

WOS1 Asia; VHM America's magic comeback.

BOS3 Jennifer Holliday -- and ah am telling you, she's not starvin'!

BOS4 Gary US Bonds' "Out of Work".

VHM the Pointers' forgotten "American Music"

BOS5 Sweet Melissa's underappreciated "You Should Hear How She Talks About You"

This week, That '70s Casey offers yet another 2-fer: a choice between Aug 30th 1975

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/08-30-75.pdf

and a rerun of the 1974 "Top Producers of the '70s... so far" special

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/10-05-74.pdf

And Casey's '80s visits Sept 5th 1981:

'75 Hour 1: the Doobs' "Sweet Maxine" is one you NEVER hear.

WOS Austin Roberts' "Rocky" -- horrid.

BOS1 the great, underrated New Birth with their cover of "Mr Dream Merchant"

BOS2 Tavares; BOS3 Ms Reddy's "No Way to Treat a Lady".

VHM the Cat Man, "2 Fine People"; ditto the Pointers, "Betchagottachickonnaside". ONJ puts a quarter in the jukebox.

uber-BOS4 the Osmonds at their finest, with a truly lovely cover of a Frankie Valli obscurity. "The Proud One" indeed.

"Feelings" -- oy.

And a young Jam & Lewis heard America's "Daisy Jane" and ripped it off 11 years later for Janet J's "Let's Wait Awhile". Honey, keep the residuals warm. VHM.

Hour 2 begins with the Carpenters' beautiful cover of Wacky Sedacky's "Solitaire". BOS5.

VHM Paul & Odia at their most Marvin'N'Tammi-ish.

BOS6 "Black Superman/Muhammad Ali"!

"Run Joey Run": the epitome of '70s pop cheeze.

"I'm sorry for the way things are in China" -- er, what?

more Wacky Sedacky-ness from Toni & Daryl; BOS7 the Amazing Rhythm Aces.

VHM Ambrosia before they went the LA-slickster route.  I never need to hear "Ballroom Blitz" again.

Hour 3: Usually by the time we get to the last hour of a typical show, it's mostly overplayed chestnuts that I never need to hear again (as opposed to all those "lost hits" in the fiirst half of the countdown). But this week, look at that Top 13 and really, how many still get played by Classic Hits stations? Bowie's "Fame, War's "Why can't We Be Friends", the Eagles, BeeGees and KC songs... that's pretty much it. Even Elton's "Someone Saved My Life" is considered too long and slow by most oldies stations. And you're never gonna hear Freddy Fender, Barry Manilow, Janis Ian...

BOS8 Mr Fender's great "Wasted Days/Wasted Nights"; BOS9 Barry M ands Sweet Melissa.

BOS10 the Isleys, fightin' da powah!

'81: It's obscurities up-the-wazoo in this first hour. Point Blank (who?) with "Nicole" (WOS1); John Denver's "Some Days are Diamonds" (VHM); Silver Condor (who??) with "You Could Take My Heart Away"; EJ's "Chloe"; Robbie Patton, John Schneider covering Elvis... oy. The early '80s were quite the crapfest.

But yay to Casey's review of the #1's of the '60s: Bobbie Gentry's debt was owed to Billie Joe.

Hour 2: RNC faves the Oak Ridge Boys get a VHM for "Elvira", papa-oom-papa-mow-mow.

Surprise BOS1 Balance, feat former Blues Magoo Peppy Castro with "Breakin' Away", an enjoyable if derivative pop ditty.

another surprise: VHM REO's pleasingly retro "In Your Letter".

BOS2 Marty Balin's "Hearts"; BOS3 Stacy Lattisaws' sweet cover of "Love on a 2-Way Street"

OMFG: uber-BOS4 Lulu's "I Could Never Miss You".

BOS5 Sheena's Bond theme.

WOS2 on principle: the "Beach Boys Medley".

Accroches-toi, ELO? mais oui!

VHM Ms Benatar, "Fire & Ice"

Gary Wright's unmemorable '80s comeback: "Really Wanna Know You".

WOS3 Pablo Cruise's worthless "Cool Love".

http://www.oldradioshows.com/at40/091083.html

eeek: Paul Anka's "Hold Me Till the Morning Comes" seems ripped off from the Segio Mendes hit "Never Gonna Let You Go" earlier in '83 or Chicago's "Hard to Say I'm Sorry".

WOS1 Journey; The Fixx run for cover in the heat. or something.

VHM Sheena, "Telefone"-ing it in.

Ms Flack & Mr Bryson celebrate they love. Stay away from open windows, Peabo. also: "climbing" and "diamonds" don't exactly rhyme.

LRB at the end of the line: "You're Driving Me Out of My Mind", their last Top 40 appearance. Sounds like Styx-goes-disco.

Kenny & Dolly go for a dip; T.Heads burn one down; Percy has a big log (duh!).

WTFF?? Juice Newton did a cover of "Tell Her No"? I swear to gawd I've never heard this before nor do I recall even reading about it. And it's not very good, either.

VHM George Benson's "Lady Love Me (One More Time)", another one that coulda been done by Chicago. Or Toto -- co-written by David Paich.

Hour 2, WOS2: Loverboy. I may bail early on this chart. But first: VHM EJ, "Kiss the Groom Bride"

BOS1 Jeffrey Osbourne's forgotten "Don'cha Get So Mad About It"; BOS2 Shalamar's fab "Dead Giuveaway". And I'm outta here before I'm subjected to the Goat, Frank Stallone and Air Supply.

This week That '70s casey offers yet another decade-spanning choice to affiliates -- either Sept 19th 1970

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/09-19-70.pdf

or Sept 15th 1979

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/09-15-79.pdf

(personally I'm getting tired of this gambit)

and Casey's '80s is from Sept 20th 1986:
