Casey's '80s is from July 19th 1986:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/07-19-86.pdf

Lionel Ritchie does his Fred Astaire imitation.

Regina, one of many Madonna clones with one name, 3 syllables, arrives with "Baby Love". VHM.

Oy: Berlin take our breath away. And ruin their career by having a #1 single.

BOS1 Prince, "Mountains"

cookie-cutter '80s pop: Gavin Christopher, "One Step Closer to You" (shouldn't that be "2 U"?)

WOS1: the Outfield.

Hour2: Journey's "Suzanne" is actually bearable. One of their poppier numbers.

"Did you hear the one about Tina?
some say she's much too loose
that came straight from a guy
who claims he's tastin' her juice"

er... ewww.

Bring me a higher love. And a grande mocha.

Woo Hoo fo' da "Woo Woo" -- BOS2 Jeffrey Osbourne.

VHM the Jets, crushin'.

Patti & Michael are talkin' divorce -- and they weren't even married!

Most welcome "extra": Simply Red's "Money$ Too Tight..."

These Monkeys don't Blow, yo. I'm "Diggin'" it.

uber-BOS3 Jermaine Stewart.

WOS2 GTR, "When the hard-on rules the mind".

BOS4 PSBs, "Opportunities"

Without googling, I can't place this.

Timex Social Club, "Rumors".

Did you hear that one about Michael?
they say he must be gay
I tried to argue but they said
"if he were straight he wouldn't move that way"
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Thanks, and they were soon to become Club Noveau.

This week, That '70s Casey is hitting July 22nd 1978:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/07-22-78.pdf

(I think we've heard this one before; it features the chart oddity of Andy Gibb being at both #40 and #1)

and Casey's '80s is from July 23rd 1988:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/07-23-88.pdf

which is the last 1988 show we'll hear this year -- Casey left the show in mid-August and was replaced by Shadoe Stevens.

I wonder if there's any possibility we'll eventually get Casey's 90's shows.

We begin as we will end... with Andy Gibb.

proxy of geoff for Boney M at #39 with just about their only tolerable song.

Summer of '78: disco, Grease and more disco.

But Broooooooce arrives to represent rock. BOS1 "Prove it all Nite"

BOS2 Todd, "Can We Still Be Friends?"

Macca attempts (unsuccessfully) to play the role of average guy in "I've Had Enuf"

WOS1 Crapton, not "Wonderful" at all; BOS2 Mr Loaf.

Hour 2: BOS3 Steve Martin -- he's mah fav'rite honky!

Babs bores us with "Songbird"; Miss Rubina Flake does Joe Brooks' follow-up to "You Light Up My Life".

WOS2 Love & Kisses' "Thank God it's Friday", one of my least-favorite disco hits of that period.

I picked up the paper this morning
And read all the daily blues
The world is one big tragedy...

the more things change, etc.  VHM ARS.

ah, the famous Casey "update" on the Singing Nun.

BOS4 "Bluer Than Blue". And I'll always have a soft spot for Toby Beau's "My Angel Baby", even if they totally ripped it off from "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye".

VHM Peter Brown with some help from an uncredited Betty Wright.

BOS5 Barry, Tony, Lola and Rico at the Copa. But just Who. Shot. Who?

Nicely-chosen "extras" today: the late Bob Welch last hour, and now Robin Gibb's cover of "Oh Darling" which I may actually prefer to the Beatles' orig.

'88 Hour 1: Corey Hart's "In Your Soul" is NTM and quite forgettable.

But Taylor Dayne's great ballad "I'll Always Love You" gets BOS1

WOS1 the Moodies WAY past their sell-by date.

uber-BOS2 Kylie's fantabulous "I Should Be So Lucky",which deserved better than a #28 peak. For shame, America.

Forgettable Huey; VHM VH; Sweet Child o' Axl.

Hour 2: BOS3 the Jets' sweet "Make It Real"

WOS2 Aerosmith's strip-club classic, "Rag Doll"

BOS4 Climie Fisher with the best Rod Stewart imitation evah.

paging Big Fingers McGee: Debbie Gibson with "Careless Foolish Whisper Beat"

WOS3 George Michael's "Monkey" -- seriously, except for "Faith" I disliked all the singles from that LP. I was baffled by its huge popularity at the time. Guilty Displeasure.

Dept of Redundancy Dept: Billy Ocean sings about a "picture-perfect painting".

VHM Rod Stewart with the best Climie Fisher imitation evah.

BOS5 Sade

Macca's band is on the run from the Olympics. Bo Donaldson's on the run from heroism.

BOS1 Billy "Crash" Craddock's underrated "Rub it In" -- a great summer song that was more of a regional hit; big in the South, elsewhere notsomuch.

VHM Croce at da car-wash.

BOS2: Johnny Bristol hangs in. VHM Mr Buffett before he became a self-parody.

props to Kool & the Gang's "H'wood Swingin'" for being one of the great "songs where the artists reference themsleves in the 3rd person"

songs that I associate with Fall 1974 just beginning their climb:  BOS3 Helen Reddy "You & Me Against the World"; BOS4 Andy Kim gets BuFu'ed.

BOS5 Ms Murray with one of my favorite Beatle covers ever.

WOS1 Grand Funk, "Shinin' On"

If you're Livvy, let me know.

"Tricky Dick! Stop yo' SHIT!!"  uber-BOS6 Lamont Dozier's scorching "Fish Ain't Bitin'"

"Sho' as Ahm Sittin Here" is minor 3DN, but VHM anyway. Sit down, git down!

Gene Redding's "This Heart" is a lovely forgotten soul ballad. BOS7FRA. (ETA: in looking for it on YouTube, I'm not at all surprised to learn it's a Lambert & Potter production!)

VHM the Commode Doors. Elvis talks in his sleep. BTO TCB.

Wet Willie keep on smilin' because Jim Stafford gave them some wildwood weed.  BOS8 "WW".

BOS9 the post-Curtis M Impressions fab "Finally Got Myself Together"

Huggin' and a-lovin'! Gittin' wit da kissin'!  BOS10 Gladys/Pips.

WOS2 "Rock'n'Roll Heaven" -- yeesh.

'83 Hour 1:  BOS1 Joan Jett's little-heard "Fake Friends".

And from fake friends to fake ELO: Dave Edmunds' Lynne-ified "Slippin Away"

VHM salty Martin Briley.  Shoulda changed his name to "Briney", no?

America reach the border.

Ha! Casey sez Diana Ross was (at that point) the #1 solo artist of the '80s. Enjoy your moment, Miss R. Madonna's on yer tail. And no wonder: "Pieces of Ice" is quite forgettable
