'79 Hour 1: proxy of cairo, The Babys; BOS1 the BeeGees, "Tragedy". And it's a tragedy we miss the first hour of this orig 4-hour show.

BOS2 and proxy of shray "Home & Dry". Vaguely creepy LDD: "Hot Child in the City". Sounds like she shoulda dedicated Dolly's "Baby I'm Burnin'", which gets a VHM -- if only we'd gotten the club remix.

BOS3 Nigel Olssen's lovely "Dancin' Shoes".  And speaking of dancin' -- I never need to hear "Shake Your Groove Thing" ever again.

Hey BJ: keep it to yourself, it's *your* life.  BOS4 Sweet Melissa, doing the "female Barry Manilow" shtick better than Dionne W did. "Don't Cry Out Loud" is a fine Peter Allen/Carole Bayer Sager compo.

Chanson's "Don't Hold Back" is quite the forgotten disco nugget. I want to like it more than I do; it's a tad too generic.

It always amused me that in '82/'83, when pop music was poised to revive the '60s, Country artists were just discovering the '50s.

BOSFRA ABBA's "All Is Said & Done", one you NEVER hear; VHM Rod's "Tonight I'm Yours" Don't hurt him! Don't hurt him!

a couple o' covers: VHM Del Shannon, doing "Sea Of Love", backed by the Heartbreakers and produced by Petty; the first of a mini-trend of '50s artists making comebacks with the help of current superstars (Gary US Bonds/Springsteen; Mitch Ryder/JCM). Lettuce groove! VHM EWF.  A friend of mine back then thought "Key Largo" was one of the Worst. Lyrics. EVAH. I find it sweetly cheezy.

Hour 2: VHM Chuck Berry's far-superior follow-up to the horrid "My Ding-a-Ling", "Reelin' & Rockin'" -- How this ever got airplay is astounding. We boogied in the kitchen/We boogied in the hall/I got some on my finger so I wiped it on the wall (!!)

WOS Brighter Side of Darkness, boring us with "a long IRREVVALENT [sic] conversation" -- the only good thing about the hilariously bad "Love Jones" is that it inspired "Basketball Jones".  Dr Hook make the cover; Fogerty celebrates Cajun cuisine a decade before Paul Prudhomme.
