Other than Air Supply and Journey, I tend to disagree you. It seems like everything you like, I don't like (You love 70s, I hate it) and everything I like, you don't (I love early 80s, you don't seem to). I think something is wrong when I agree with you. Not saying I complete an opposite of what you wrote for today's show but I don't mind Madness, Taco or Frank Stallone. In fact, I like Madness and Stray Cats.

actually, alot of my comments are attempts at snark/humor and don't necessarily mean I dislike a song (unless I specifically give it a WOS). I don't hate Madness' "Our House", for example but it is easily one of the most overexposed hits of that period.

Meanwhile next week...
And Casey's '80s visits August 30th 1980:

Man, I sure love that Stephanie Mills song!  Haven't heard it in ages.

Rita Coolidge arrives with "All Time High", her Bond theme, but I still wish they'd had the balls to actually write a song called "Octopussy". And have Shirley Bassey sing it.
OMFG: I posted a similar comment on the AT40 geek board... and their censorship software turned "Octopussy" into  -- I shit you not -- "Octogirl thingy".  Good thing Casey never had to play the Pussycat Dolls.
So the Tom Jones hit becomes "What's New Girlthingy Cat" ?!

Today's AT40 70s is 8/26/78 (yes, another 78 show)

But next week is 9/4/71: http://www.oldradioshows.com/at40/090471.html

Have we heard this '78 chart before? Babs and Cheryl Ladd (both songs produced by the same guy, iirc) seem esp familiar.

pre-show BOS: our Canuck friends play BTO's "Gimme Your Money Please" which I haven't heard in ages.

I think we have, a year or two ago. If not, then we've heard other charts from summer 78. Seems we've had many '78 shows this year.  After a few years of listening to these AT40 70s replays, the charts are sounding pretty familiar.

Hour 1: Babs is a prisoner of Faye Dunaway's eyes. or something.

VHM Mr Rafferty.

Oh, NOW I remember: this Cheryl Ladd thing was produced by the same folks who did Dolly's "Here You Come Again".  It's hard for Boston not to look back, 'cause nothing they did after '76 was as good.  I remember August of '78: I took 2 weeks of vacay with the intention of going to the beach every day and working on my tan and the sun did not shine once in 14 days.

WOS1 Foxy's worse-than-cheezy "Get Off", one of my least-favorite disco hits. "Tie me up at your place"? Really??

HM to Babs and Gerry, BOS to Susan Anton's head-bobbing pop nugget.  May not be online much longer, so cheers!

(All is fine here so far.  Not expecting to need to evacuate; indeed, friends are coming over here later.)

you're forgiven for mistaking Cheryl ladd for Susan Anton. I've never seen them together, now that I think of it.

BOS1 Kinks. VHM Robin Gibb's "Oh Darlin', about the only good thing to come from the Sgt Pepper's... movie debacle.

Good question about the #1 comedy LP of all time

Actually, Mr Ocasek, I *do* mind you coming here and wasting all my time.

eek! Loggins and Goatrina.  Proxy of geoff, Boney M's "Rivers of Babylon", their only remotely decent single, at its #30 peak, far from the heights it reached in Europe.

Teddy wants me to "Close the Door"! *swoon!*  BOS2.  and BOS3 Ms Murray with one of the loveliest ballads evah.

Hour2: from Cheryl Ladd to Cheryl Tiegs -- Seger gets laid in the H'Wood Hills. And The Village Peeps get laid whereverthefuck they want. "Dig my big... thick... moustache".

unexpected VHM Rita Coolidge's forgotten "You".

LRB... Q ... JT/ONJ.  Actually, I'll VHM "Summer Nights", the only song from the immensely clever original Grease score to become a hit single off the film sndtk .

BOS4 Slick Rick. Sing it, sugah!  BOS5 John Paul Young.

BOS6 Toby Beau's sweet "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" "My Angel Baby".

uber-BOS7 Chris Rea, "Fool if You Think You're Sober". Nice to hear the now out-of-print orig 45. VHM Barry M & his bagels. (Love that Casey had to explain what a bagel is!)

ooo! the very first LDD: "Desiree", explained by Casey with an interview with the people involved.

I've definitely heard this countdown - I remember the DC5 "Everybody Knows" and Manilow bagel stories.

I've never heard any of it - no snark intended, but what was so great about it?

Newhart was a brilliant stand-up comedian, which his sitcom character only hinted at.

I think we have, a year or two ago.

per the folks at the AT40 geek message board, this is the 3rd time this show has aired, mainly because of the historic significance of the first LDD.

Evelyn "Bubbles" "Champagne" King gets a VHM. Exile should be exiled.

ONJ is hopelessly devoted.

"You'll have to get away from you-know-who"  Uh, actually, Foreigner, we *don't* know who. WTF are you talking about?

Sunday pre-chart BOS: Lighthouse, "Pretty Lady". Hope Gaz tuned in early.

But we begin with #40, a forgotten Jermaine Jackson midtempo ballad -- BOSFRA.

VHM EJ's "Little Jeannie"

BOS2 Stephanie Mills. VHM Carly's forgotten "Jesse"; WOS Robert John's horrendously unnecessary remake of "Hey There Lonely Girl"

BOS3 H&O's dead-on Tom Petty imitation, "How Does It Feel To Be Back", another forgotten 45.

Looking ahead, this is quite the snoozy chart.  I'll stick around for "Xanadu" and then I'll bail to check out WLNG's storm coverage.
