WOS3 Frank Stallone.

VHM Huey with the McCartneyesque (at least to my ears) "Heart & Soul"

And speaking of Macca: BOS2 his delightful duet with MJ, "Say Say Say"

VHM Quiet Riot and Robert Plant, "Cum on Feel My Big Log"

BOS3 Peabo & Roberta at their creamy-dreamy best.

WOS4 The Goat, "If Anyone Falls"

Stacy Lattisaw leads off the '83 chart with one for the same-title-diff-song list: "Miracles". VHM.

WOS1 Journey; "Nice Try, But Seriously... Why?" Award to Joan Jett's reinterp of Sly's "Everyday People"

Little did I know in '83 that "Everyday I Write the Book" -- his *first* Top 40 hit in the US! -- would become a radio staple 25 years later.

Speaking of reinterps: WOS2 Taco's horrid "Puttin on the Ritz". Lord, it's awful -- I can't believe there are people who even tolerate it, much less remember it fondly.

OMGWTF-of-the-Day: Agnetha F, trying to follow in Frida's footsteps with "Can't Shake Loose" -- more than a bit of "Abracadabra" and other then-recent hits in this one, which I barely remember ever hearing on the radio in '83.

I liked Taco back then. Today...not so much.

If you want to include LDD for WOS, "You Light Up My Life" BLEEECH!!

This week's '70s show is from Nov 2nd 1974:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/11-02-74.pdf

and Casey's '80s is from Oct 31st 1981:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/10-31-81.pdf

guess Casey never did a Halloween countdown...

But hey '74 gives us Prelude's a capella Neil Young cover, Art Garfunkel's lovely Tim Moore cover, Gino Vanelli's "People Gotta Move" and the Hudson Bros' "So You Are a Star" -- all in the first hour!

BOS Prelude's lovely, audacious a cappella Neil Y cover; I'd like to *take* cover from the middlebrow mush of Mr Chapin's hit as it debuts.

Always a VHM for the fab "Angie Baby"; BOS2 Mr Garfunkel's sweet "Second Ave".

"Here's another BIG hit for 3 Dog Night" says Casey of "Brickyard Blues". Er... not quite, Mr K.

VHM Rev. Al; BOS3 early Gino Vanelli; and another VHM to The Hues Corp with one of my favorite sound-alike follow-ups.

2 more BOSes to end this wonderful first hour: Kate Hudson's dad and his Brothers with the unfairly forgotten "So You Are a Star", and Marvin's swoon-inducing "Distant Lover".

Gotta head outta here, but BOS-in-absentia to one of the Osmonds' finest hours, "Love Me For a Reason". I'll hear it in the car.

Back just in time for WOS-in-perpetuity to "Sweet Home Ala-bummer" -- if I'd known back then then that this would go on to be one of THE. MOST. OVERPLAYED songs in radio history, I might've done something drastic.

TO & Dawn are "Steppin Out" -- VHM to one of the more pleasant of their cut-from-the-same-cloth old-timey hits.

Carole King sings to her bra! and the Gaz-man's testifyin'.

ETA: catching tonite the part of the chart I missed this morning -- "Then Came You" dropped from 1 to 15??

Yup, can't believe Casey didn't mention it.  It tied the previous week's #1, "Nothing From Nothing," for biggest drop from the top position.  I don't know if that record's been beat.

Echoing many of your comments.  Garfunkel's "2nd Ave" didn't do it for me, but I'm ever a sucker for the Hudson Bros. on "So You Are a Star," which I have to think the '71 Bee Gees could have taken to the throne.

Casey's off his game, though: he called a couple songs by slightly wrong titles.

"every planet will BE-come our own!"

Our Canadian friends precede Casey's '80s with an encore of Lighthouse's "One Fine Morning". More Canadian content: #40 is by Chilliwack.... and it's neither chill nor wack.

But the Go-Gos get a shout-out from Casey as the first all-girl band since Fanny to hit the 40. "Our Lips are Sealed" only moves up one notch, 40-to-39; no wonder it was on the chart for 30 weeks.

Wow, Burton Cummings' "You Saved My Soul" is NTM -- nice Spectorian production. VHMFRA.  "Lettuce groove" say EWF -- farmworkers unite!

The BeeGees' famous forgotten flop "He's a Liar" is forgotten for a reason. This one even flopped in the UK.

AAAAACK! WOS "Sausalito SummerFright"

2 Atlanta-related tunes are NTM: ARS's "Alien" and Marty Balin's "Atlanta Lady". proxy of Gaz for the latter. And VHM Miss Ross's jaunty Frankie Lymon cover.

BOS Barry M's pleasingly old-school "Old Songs". How odd that even as Top 40 was leaning heavily towards adult-contempo, his hitmaking ability was faltering.

hey, Petty: stop draggin' The Goat around! "This doesn't have to be the big gay fever"

What a shame "Say G'Bye to H'wood" didn't become a hit until BJ's live version. But it's followed by Jarreau Hands! VHM "We're in this Lurve Together"

uber-BOS2 Kenny Roger's wonderful cover (feat Gladys Knight) of "Share Your Love" -- one of his best singles ever, IMHO.

BOS3 Mike Post, "Hill St Blues"; VHM the Tops singin' 'bout the big-legged girl. Or big black girl. Or some kinda girl.

I've been listening all along while cleaning and throwing out a bunch of old stuff. BOS to "Say Goodbye to Hollywood" - BJ's underrated band played marvelously, and the last line of the last verse always tugs at me.  HM to "When She Was My Girl," which I often confuse (and conflate) with the O'Jays' "Use ta Be My Girl."

Me too!

Final BOS before I head out: Rick Springfield.
