Holy crap -- BOS5 to the most unexpected "Extra" in ages: Kylie's "I Should Be So Lucky". One of the great pop singles of the '80s and I'm gobsmacked to be hearing it here, since it (sadly) peaked at #28.

Exciting news -- Madison's Magic 98 will be doing a Casey marathon on Saturday -- 6 shows, culminating with the very first AT40 from 1970 (times listed are CDT).

6-9am show - June 28, 1975

9-12 noon show - May 14, 1977

12-3pm show - October 14, 1972

3-6pm show - January 4, 1975

6-9pm show - October 19, 1974

9pm-12 midnight show - July 4, 1970, "The Debut Show"

It should be noted that the above link is NOT the chart from July 4, 1970 but July 11, 1970. #40 for July 4th was Sly and the Family Stone "I Want to Take You Higher." The #1 song on July 4th was Jackson 5 "The Love You Save".

Is July 11th maybe the first show? This is the same one Siruis/XM played last year but I followed along with my Billboard chart book and it was July 11th. Even at the beginning of the show, Casey says "For the week ending July 11, 1970" and if you read the cue sheets, the first one list is July 11th.

HM to Susan Jacks and the Poppy Family, "Which Way You Goin', Billy?"  I've heard it's about a guy who chooses fighting in the war over his wife, but I think it could be read as sexual-identity conflict as well.
