BOS the Carpenters' lovely Carole King cover -- amazing that this was the single that broke their streak of 6 consecutive Top Three charters.

Last night I didn't get to sleep at all... this woman kept banging on my door. Went on for hours. Finally, I had to get up and let her out.

BOS2 Ms. McCoo and the fab Fifth.

and VHM DR Hook, interpreting the great Shel Silverstein's wonderful piece of story-songwriting.

Casey celebrates the Exile on Main St rerelease by playing a show with "Tumbling Dice" at its #7 peak

Mick don't need your jewels in his crown. But he'd love to give you a pearl necklace.

I've told friends on the East Coast about the famous Tom Shane "give her a pearl necklace" commercial but no one believes me.

NTM from JJ: the Staples' "Unlock Your Mind", a Top 20 R&B hit from their Warners period that never even charted Pop. In the "Let's Do it Again" vein; dunno if Curtis M wrote this one too.

ETA: oops, wrong thread...

This weekend is chock-full of NTMs in both sets.  Elton's "Nobody Wins," one of them, deserved better: it peaked at 21 and lasted on the charts only 6 weeks.  But wow is there a lot of forgettable singer-songwriter pointlessness in this set.  WOS to Lee Ritenour's lifeless lite jazz.  BOS to Sheena Easton's "Morning Train."  And OMGWTF to Get Wet, gettin' so wo-wo-wo-wo-wonely with a song I had no idea existed.

After unheezing us with last week's #1, Casey's '80s kicks off with 4 obscurities in a row: EJ's "Nobody Wins", Get Wet's "Just So Lonely" and Jim Photoglo's "Fool in Love With You" are all songs I just-barely remember; but -- say what? -- the great Jesse Winchester actually had a Top 40 hit called "Say What?"  I don't remember this at all.

This John O'Banion is another generic and forgettable Doobs clone; but the Pure Prairie League tune was notable for a pre-country-stardom Vince Gill.

WOS Crapton -- no, really, I *CAN'T* stand it.

Casey welcomes the Who with open arms and open legs. No homo.

JS find their way back to a WOS2.  And here's Quincy Jones' "Ai No Corrida", written by former Ian Dury Blockhead Chas Jankel! I always thought he cribbed some of the melody from "Dreadlock Holiday".

VHM Barry M with one of this week's LDDs: "I Made it Thru the Rain", which I'll always associate with the freeing of the Iranian hostages.

I wanna tell Rick Springfield I love him, but the point is prob'ly moot.

OMGWTF: Don McLean's forgotten cover of "Since I Don't Have You"; VHM H&O's "You Make-a Mah Dreams"

The question about the acapella songs that hit the top 40. Casey said only two hit the top 40. Would future Billy Joel hit "The Longest Time" count?
