Barry Scott just played an early-'70s cover of Cymarron's "Rings" by none other than Lobo.  He didn't improve on the unjustly forgotten hit.

Yes! never understood why he covered it (or why they released it as a single).  There's also a country version that switched out "James taylor on the stereo" for Merle Haggard or Hank Williams, iirc.  And of course it was written by Alex harvey of "Delta Dawn" fame

       This week's edition of AT40-The 70's is from January 21, 1978 http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/01-21-78.pdf                                                       This week's program for AT40-the 80's is from January 21, 1984 http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/01-21-84.pdf.                                                                                                             I prefer the '84 show with less disco cheese.

The back-to-back "Close Encounters" versions were entertaining, though I wouldn't want a steady diet of either.

Vivid memories of the Thunderbird, the bar my biological father would take me to 1978-80: "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" and "Baby Come Back" were jukebox staples there.  I can almost smell the sawdust on the shuffleboard-like upright game.

Yes,  I think that was their biggest hit, too ...  it freakin' rawks!

Here they are lip synching the song on a German TV show:

That was decidedly odd; and I'm floored to see that the John Williams version got as high as #13.

I loved hearing Casey explain "Short People" to the, er, mental midgets in the audience.

A major favorite of mine.  Already looking forward to this set - I'll be listening to the Chico broadcast.

BTW, since AT40 didn't debut in NYC until the spring of '71, it would seem this is a show I've never heard before.  And -- BONUS! --  Casey was featuring a cut from the #1 LP each week back then, so we'll get George dissing the Pope on "Awaiting on You All". Nice.

For the most part, I definitely will enjoy the 80's show.
