I sometimes listen to the 70's version but this is one to miss. Too bad they couldn't do July 4, 1970, the very first American Top 40.

Not one of the better special countdown shows in AT40 history.  Really heavy on '77 shows lately.  What gives?  "Tammy" has to be one of the most cringe worthy songs of all time! "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro and "Mandy" by Barry Manilow aren't far behind!!!  Hope the AT40-The 80's special countdown is better.

indeed, it'll be pay-per-view on Sat nite, methinks. I too wish we'd get the very first (7/4/70) show, or at least one of his OHW/"disappearing acts" countdowns.

Ditto for these:

And they couldn't even spell "Robinson" right.

I don't if this is a mistake or not but here is the description of XM's 70's on 7 Casey's show on Saturday morning (9AM PT).:

It's only fitting that a show called "American Top 40" debuted on America's birthday. Casey Kasem hosted the very first "AT40" countdown airing on Independence Day Weekend, 1970. We've dug deep into our archive vaults to find that very first show!

I definitely will tape it. If this the show, I'll see if I could make an audio file and I'm successful there, I will offer it to anyone here who wants it. I let everyone know on Saturday if (a) the show comes on and (b) if I could make an audio file on the show. If anyone can access XM radio, it's on 3 times, 9PM Saturday, 6AM and 9PM Sunday (all times Pacific)

Indeed, SFG, it would be wonderful if you could do that.  I heard that show when they re-ran it in 1975 for the 5th anniversary, and was struck by how much Casey's voice had changed in 5 years. By '75 he'd really gotten into his groove of a super-sincere, slightly syrupy delivery, but in '70 he was gruffer and punchier (you can hear remnants of that in the early-'71 shows we've gotten). It was a revelation at the time for a young radio geek like me.

Thank you, a thousand times thank you, SFGuy - I'd love a copy if it happens.  Been curious to hear this for a long time.

And Kahunaburger, thanks!  Just noticing this now.  Will catch the end of Tulsa time.

Argh!  For whatever reason, I am unable to play any streaming audio that pops up a window with a URL that has this in it: cc-common/ondemand/player.html ... I get a message about an Add-On being blocked; and when I try to download the add-on, I'm told my security settings won't allow it; and I'm uncomfortable playing with my security settings; so I try IE instead of my usual Firefox, and that won't even pop up the damn pop-up and I just downloaded an update to it last week ... Yarrgh.  I'm tired of using technology.  I'll listen to an '80s countdown sometime this weekend.
