Out of the blues, KBCO now revives Dandy Warhols, "Bohemian Like You."

And now KFOG is playing it.

ETA: ...straight into Bohemian Rhapsody, which one assumes will be the last song before 10@10.

And what a treat that was -- it NEVER comes up in reg rotation, tho' they did play it for a while when it was a hit.

But will KFOG mirror KBCO's playing "Boris the Spider"?

KFOG copies KBCO with Stevie, Boogie On Reggae Woman, then substitutes the John Lee Hooker "Boom Boom" for the JLH w/Big Head Todd version that 'BCO used. And now "Boom Like that" from Knopfler, which 'BCO skipped.

and -- sadly -- no "Boris the Spider". And "Born at the Right Time" leads off the "Born" contingent.

I'm guessing KFOG won't do "Boulder Skies" by PPL ;)

and with that I'm off to CG to catch up with Greg''s Friday show, missed because of their player malfunction.

The recent set on KFOG has been really nice: Tull's Bouree into Wilco's Box Full of Letters, into the Dead's catchiest song ever, Box of Rain.
Let's get right to it.

Somehow between yesterday and today, KFOG has overtaken and passed the 'BCO A-Z. Yesterday songs we heard on BCO before 10am (local) were heard on KFOG after 10@10. Today, songs I heard on KFOG while making my breakfast 90 minutes ago (Come to Jesus, Come to My Window, Come Together) are just now being played on BCO.

Btw, I heard Annalisa make specific mention yesterday that their A-Z would last two weeks. Which is about as long as they usually do. Although the first couple of letters sure seem to be taking longer than I remember.

That's interesting, considering that KFOG stops for 2 45-minute "10@10 Breaks" each day (not to mention the Sat marathon and Acoustic Sunrise/set), while 'BCO does not.   KFOG has done shorter versions of A-to-Z (10 days and even 7 days) but they clearly want this one to be one of the better ones. We'll see where the 2 stations are in relation to each other on Mon morning.

"Ah wuz proceeding in a southerly direction, milord, when I heard a sort of... boojie-woojie music, emanating from the middle of KFOG's A-to-Z!"  Mr Baldry makes a rare non-10@10 appearance.

This morning there was an extended debate about whether the Fleetwood Mac song called Dreams should precede or follow the Cranberries song of the same name. (They had just played the FM song and were about to play the C'berries.) They called in Alphabetization Czar Rosalie, who said that if they had been different versions of the same song, they should be played chronologically, but because they were different songs, they should be played alpha by artist. Meaning they'd flubbed by playing the Mac version first.

And now I get to work an hour later, and BCO is playing the same sequence. Except they played the Cranberries first. Preceded by the Bodeans song of the same name. Point, KBCO.

(Rosalie also mentioned that they had planted a "shill" in the A-Z list, a song intentionally played out of order, just for the enjoyment of anal-retentive fogheads (like us) who delight in finding such things. But the Cranberries-F'Mac juxtaposition wasn't it.

so, how to explain "Doctor Robert" preceding "Doctor, My Eyes"?  is it the comma?

I wouldn't think so, but if they're taking the "nothing comes before something" rule literally that may be how that happened. Personally I would discount any punctuation marks and place Doctor, My Eyes before Doctor Robert. Gaz, have you an opinion on this?

(Meanwhile, KFOG has plunged headlong into the E's. Just heard Edge of Seventeen, now Eight Days a Week. Wish they'd post the list of songs played.)

I am still thinking they are taking a lot longer to move thru the alphabet than they have in past A-Zs. I'll have to look back at last year's A-Z thread, but sure seems like they'll be pushing it to get thru this by next Sunday.

One other thought: last year, didn't they suspend A-Z over the weekend? (I know, it seems as I'm spending far too much time thinking about this...)

actually they do: click the "just played" feature and you get a list from the past hour with a doo-hickey (that's the tech term, isn't?) that you can use to search further.

I don't recall them suspending A-to-Z on the weekends in the past. But between the Marathon, Acoustic Sunrise, Live from the Archives, Sun Nite Jam and House o'Blues... there's not much airtime left over.

ETA: 'BCO just went from "Election Day" (L Lovett) to "Eminence Front", skipping "Electric Ave", 'Electrical Storm" and "Elevation" which KFOG just played.

Well, it appears the E's won't be with us much longer. Annalisa just played Estimated Prophet, and is promising a Santana song next (Europa?), so once we get thru all the Everys it should be on to the land of F.

Just switched to KFOG in time for Bruce's version of "The Fever".  Apparently preceded by Belly's "Shaking the Tree" -- has that EVER been played in regular rotation? Doubtful.
