OK, just noticed these upcoming shows:

Kid Rock & Sheryl Crow (Shoreline, 7/29)
Kenny G. & Michael Bolton (Mountain Winery, 8/28)
Train & Maroon 5 (Sleeptrain Pavilion, 9/15)

Sooo, if you had a gun to your head...

Gun to my head and I'd take the Kid Rock show and leave before Sheryl. Assuming he'd open?

Kenny G and Michael Bolton, but I would go buy lite beers during all of Kenny G's  set.

(Moving this over from the "Great Guitarists" set thread)

Any interest (yourself, or anyone else really) to see Los Lobos next week at the Mountain Winery?

If you haven't bought your tix yet, you might want to check on the health of the band members before you do so.

Saw the Lobes last night with Los Lonely Boys outdoors at the Portland Zoo. Very pleasant evening (we finally got a day with temps in the upper 80s) but it was probably one of the more shambolic Lobos shows I've seen. Due mainly to the ill health of several band members: David Hidalgo's voice was ragged and croaking; Cesar Rosas was better but only a bit, and bassist Conrad Lozano was MIA due to what Hidalgo termed "a medical emergency" the night before. He quickly added that he's doing better now, but they'd sent him home to recuperate and called in his son Vincent Hidalgo to pinch-hit on bass. The younger Hidalgo actually did a pretty fine job holding down the low end, so that Lozano's absence was not so acutely felt. And instrumentally they were pretty damn strong, as always. But I got the feeling throughout their set that they were doing whatever they could to just get through to the encore. They had Henry from Los Lonely Boys sit in on guitar and vox for a lengthy jam on Little Wing (a la SRV), and the rest of LLB came out for the encore, La Bamba and Good Lovin'.

Btw, I was enjoyed most of LLB's set, some nice Texas blues that pays unashamed homage to SRV and the Lobos, among other influences--right up until they pulled out their big hit to close it out. Of course, that's what got people on their feet; the Foghead mentality is everywhere.
Let's get right to it.

ha, they probably DO cover an Osmond tune.  Cover band that wears big afro wigs and plays 70s pop.  Good-time party music for aging frat boys and others who need comfort-zone rock.  (see also: Tainted Love, another cover band)

Went to Outside Lands on Saturday - ended up scoring 2 VIP tickets through someone at Another Planet.  I had to work most of the day, but got to see The Black Keys and Muse.  Not a huge fan of Muse, but man, what an incredible band to see live.  A combo platter of Queen, Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode.  I didn't run into Kate Hudson (ha), but saw Justin Chambers from Grey's Anatomy walking around with his wife and kids.  The Black Keys were pretty amazing, too.  Huge sounds coming from both bands...a duo and a trio, to boot.  The VIP bathrooms - on a scale of 1 - 10 get an 8 (!).  Hairspray, styling products & clean, clean, clean.  There was bleacher seating, too.  Thank gawd...there were - what - 60,000 people there and I didn't feel like dealing with the (drunk/high) crowd.

AL messaged me that she was going to be in the media tent and to stop by, but it was on the opposite side to where we were.  Too bad...it would've been fun.

I didn't get to go today, but Win Butler from Arcade Fire made a cameo during Mavis Staples' set and sang The Weight with her (I die!).  Here's a clip:

Girl Is On My Mind
The Breaks
Stack Shot Billy

Ten Cent Pistol
I'll Be Your Man

Muse setlist:

Hysteria
(Star-Spangled Banner - Jimi Hendrix)
Map of the Problematique
Butterflies & Hurricanes
(Glastonbury 2004 intro)
Guiding Light
Citizen Erased
Nishe
United States Of Eurasia
Helsinki Jam
Undisclosed Desires
Resistance
Time Is Running Out
(House of the Rising Sun intro)

There was a SF band called Superbooty that did same from the late '90s through early '80s.  I saw them prolly a dozen times.  Wonderbread 5 does a lot of J5 material.

Enjoyed seeing those. We were lucky to have Day on the Greens. Those were some fun times.

They kept adding shows, I guess.  I'm going Friday with a FB 10@10er.  Coast to coast, L.A. to Chicago...
