Beach Boys will reunite in next year for a 50th Anniversary concert...maybe in GG Park (!)
http://www.nme.com/news/the-beach-boys/52167
Beach Boys are a fave, that would be fun fun fun, but given the history between Mike Love and others and Brian's quirkiness, I doubt it.  Here's the original Rolling Stone article, which was more tentative than the NME article: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/17386/183831
Then there's this in the LA Times: Beach Boys 50th Anniv reunion?  Don't bet on it

This is one event where I'd say keep the old good memory alive. No need to see them play now at their advanced ages. I saw Brian years ago (eta Oct 06) at the Bridge benefit. Even got to say hi since he ended up seated close to us. It felt awkward watching him perform. Sad.

When you see the Bangles, be sure to give Michael Steele a piece of my mind for such shoddy RNC leadership!

while I'm not a fan of the band, it does sound like a problem the venue should have addressed.  I even like pigeons, used to raise them, but in a case like this, it needed to be taken care of.

Davefish, you mentioned last week that you've never seen Widespread Panic.  Here's your chance, they play the Fox Theater Oakland Oct 15-16-17 (pre-sale 7/28, general public tix 8/1).  A few years ago I was walking Market St after work and noticed on Warfield marquee they were playing that night, so bought a ticket at box office and walked in.  Enjoyed a night of quality jam band, much like Allman Bros, with cool psychedelic light show.  Quite a dedicated following of fans.  Apparently they're known for not playing the same set twice and pick their set just before going on.  Check 'em out. http://www.widespreadpanic.com/ontour.php

I'm a little prejudiced because the bass player is a friend of mine, but I also recommend them.  There are many great bands, but this one is one I really felt like I'd like to play in!  I can enjoy and appreciate a band without feeling that way.  I have not seen them in a while, since Jimmy Herring has replaced their late guitarist, Mike Houser.  Jimmy is a fantastic player, and maybe I'll get over there too!

I saw Rickie Lee Jones at Stern Grove yesterday.  I never considered myself a huge fan, but her understated laid back girly bluesy voice is certainly unique and she can craft a song very well.  She put on a very good show and it was a lot of fun. She played w two other guys, both very young (I saw one dude up close and he looked to be about 22) who played various arrangements of mandolin, keys, guitars, a drumset of sorts, bass, and who could help out nicely w falsetto backing harmonies.   Ricki herself strummed an acoustic fed occasionally through some buzzy filter and also got behind a drum kit for a couple songs ("I may not play these well, but I get a lot of joy from it") and an upright piano for a few more. She still sounds just like she did when she made the scene back in the day.

btw, do you know the song Little Fluffy Clouds by The Orb?  That's Rickie's voice they sampled:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuSkyOpjoVk

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Fluffy_Clouds

Interviewer: "What were the skies like when you were young?"

Jones: "They went on forever – They - When I w- We lived in Arizona, and the skies always had little fluffy clouds in 'em, and, uh... they were long... and clear and... there were lots of stars at night. And, uh, when it would rain, it would all turn - it- They were beautiful, the most beautiful skies as a matter of fact. Um, the sunsets were purple and red and yellow and on fire, and the clouds would catch the colours everywhere. That's uh, neat 'cause I used to look at them all the time, when I was little. You don't see that. You might still see them in the desert."
