Monsters of Folk hold promise - they're an indie-rock "supergroup," which could make them their generation's CSNY - and I highly recommend Fleet Foxes.  This may not be a "legendary" roster but it's a good one.  How hard is it to get tickets?  I've never contemplated going before.

Lawn seating = easy, relatively inexpensive
Section 100's (lower bowl) = Hard to get, costly
Section 200's = Can usually obtain easily, still somewhat costly after ticketbastard fees

I'd love to host you and get you to the show.  My girlfriend who usually parties with me at most shows is flying to Vegas on Bridge weekend for U2. I think it's U2. I used to go both days but cut back to one day last ear. This year I prefer Sunday with Sandler. Maybe he'll sing the Channukah song.... not.

Count me in!  Think I can do without the Section 100s.  Molto grazie!

Last night, Autstrailian Pink Floyd at the Fox:

Note for note reproductions of mid-70s (mostly) Floyd.  Nice light show, animation, stargate.  First set started with some "Dark Side...", moved onto WYWH, and a couple from Animals ("Pigs" and "Sheep").  Everything note for note, even the whoa oh whoa whooooooaaaah female vocals on the Dark Side track -- which was actually pretty darned impressive.  And then a "Floyd Mix Tape" where things spread out a bit, became a little more obscure at points (earlier/later Floyd, and what seemed to be a Simple Minds tune).  Less note for note, but still pretty spot on.

Became bored and tired, left just a bit early (in the middle of "Wish You Were Here" -- it was pretty close to over then, I think). 

All in all, a diverting evening, but you could pretty much get the same effect by playing your own cds really loud while watching Roger Rabbit and I, Robot on a nice tv...

Most excellent time at Chickenfoot with Queensryche opening. Classic rock show. Even a bra tossed up on stage, Sammy retrieved it and hung it off his mike stand. Beee-yuuuuu-teee-ful evening. Highly recommend catching their show if opportunity presents. Apparently they did a quick gig at the Fillmore earlier in the week. Wish I had known about that. Great entertainers all around. Sammy said it was his first time playing the Greek. He ended the show with Bad Motor Scooter and some windmill action for My Generation. Then I think a little bit of Star Spangled Banner. Ended with Chad kicking down his drum kit. The youngster showing the old guys how it's done? BOS to Satriani for incredible guitar work. BOS2 to Chad for amazing drums. Kept throwing sticks out to the crowd and immediately had another in hand and was playing like there was no tomorrow. Sammy had enthusiasm to burn and moves around like a 20-something. Great personality. Had my kids there and along with mother nature, the f-bomb and such language was used mucho liberally by Sammy, but what the heck.

Show ended about 10:45 which seemed early but performance was grand. Does Berkeley have an 11pm time limit?

Saw American Idiot at Berkeley Rep last nite.  And I'm pretty much in agreement with the critical consensus that it's really great musically, but that the book needs work.

It really RAWKS, the onstage rock band is tight, and everyone in the cast sings the hell out of it. In no way does it seem like rock songs being repurposed to sound like showtunes.  It's dynamic powerful and angry, just like the album. But not much has been done to flesh it out, plotwise. There's litlle dialogue; it's almost all sung.  And even with additional songs (including several from the new CD including "Know Your Enemy" and "21 Guns") the whole thing runs 90 minutes with no intermission.  If they're taking it to B'way it could easily be made longer and better with some character development.  But I really enjoyed what they've done so far.

Bruce Hornsby and his current backing band, the Noisemakers (yes, he's now Range-free, chickens) were the tightest live unit I've ever seen.  They played and sang marvelously.  But the show, at the Town Hall, was somehow unfulfilling.  Their chops came off more as show-offy than passionate.
