Aerosmith cancels summer tour (they were to play Concord 8/19 with ZZTop):
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090814/ap_en_ot/us_people_steven_tyler
As much as I love me some Perry, I wasn't going to trek over to Concord for the show. I admire Steven for partying like he does at 61. I can only hope I still have some partay in me at that age and that I live to see that age.

The Bone has officially cancelled "Bone Bash 10"...

Probably the smart thing to do financially--too late to get a suitable replacement, and they'd have to offer refunds even if the show went on minus Aerosmith, which a lot of folks would probably take.
Let's get right to it.

No posts about the Depeche Mode concert yet (or lack thereof)  :o

Was anyone else planning on going?  I was really looking forward to seeing them and Peter Bjorn & John.  I'm so mad they're not rescheduling!  >:(  At least PB&J are playing at the Great American Music Hall in December...

going to the Bottom of the Hill this Sunday for a ROCK SHOW!

The night's lineup:

Dungen - Rock / Psychedelic / Folk
Woods   - Pop / Psychedelic / Jam Band
Kurt Vile - Folk Rock / Psychedelic / Pop

could be a long night there, so will prob skip the openers to focus on Dungen (say "DOON-yen"), the finest Swedish psychedelic rock band you will see this year (high five!)

Props for being hip to Dungen. I haven't seen 'em, but Sarah likes 'em and has brought home a couple of their albums, which I rather dug as well. Wish I was still gonna be in town on Sunday--but if I was I'd probably go see the Minus 5/Baseball Project show anyway. Never rains, but it pours. But I see they're in PDX next week, so maybe I'll still have a chance.

I've heard good things about Kurt Vile, but not sure if they'd be worth having to stand thru a mediocre second act to see. Sucks to be getting old and jaded, y'know.

yeah, I saw "jam band" as a descriptor and went "uh-oh" -- didn't know about Minus 5 or the Baseball Project.  sounds good.

I'm particularly bummed to be missing the Baseball Project--this is only the second time they've performed live. (They're in Portland tomorrow while I'm still in CA, and play here in SF on Sunday, by which time I'm back in OR. Grrr.) But with songs about Curt Flood, Harvey Haddix, Ted Williams, Satchel Paige, and the only man to throw a no-hitter while coming off an acid trip, Dock Ellis, how can you not want to see that band?

That would be a tough call. If I were in SF I might have to go to both. Aja is such a great great album. But Royal Scam is pretty much their last foray into rock.

So all last week Annalisa was giving away Doobies at the Fillmore tix on her Mid-Day Mind Games.  And she was just playing the opening notes to well-know songs & you had to ID the song.  On Friday I was driving with my kids to Sweet Tomatoes when this came on again, so I dialed my phone & handed it to my son Adrian (the one who met Dave Mack & his wife at the Lyle Lovett show) who was riding shotgun, and said to him, "Let me know if it rings".  Right then Annalisa played the opening bar of "China Grove", so I said, "if it rings and someone answers, just tell them it's 'China Grove'."

So he says it's ringing and then I hear him say, "My name is Adrian & my dad's name is Mark"..."Yes, it's China Grove"..."I'm 9"..."We love the Doobies"..."Okay, I'll hold."

We pulled into the parking lot just in time to hear the palyback of the exchange, which was pretty cool since the reason Adrian was riding shotgun was that his brother & two friends were in the back seat.  So they all got to hear him win the tix on the radio.

So does he get to go to the show with you? (If so you might want to call & make sure they're allowing kids of his age into the show.)
