CBS-FM is doing a hilariously cheezy-but-clever custom-made parody of "We Didn't Start the Fire" listing the names of artists from the '60s '70s & '80s.  Genius!

"Chubby Checker, Zombies
Pet Shop Boys and Three Degrees!"

Yeah, I was enjoying that too.  They remembered Toby Beau!

And it's our favorite Elvis moment, "Suspicious Minds."

The wonderful Bob Shannon, talking up "Philadelphia Freedom": "and now, Elton John lies on his resume."  I used to be a Rolling Stone, you know...

Great stuff.

TJ, talkin' about that little LAY-dy!

So CBS-FM brings back the old tunes, and the Dow soars 200 points! Coincidence?

First Class, headin' to San Jose with their Beach Baby.  Someone tried to vote for this as a HFH this week, and Dave said "er.... NO."

"Hi, I'm Rupert Holmes... and if you like Pina Coladas and gettin' caught in the rain, you'll absolutely LOVE the fact that CBS-FM 101.1 is back!  And if you don't like Pina Coladas, and you like Margaritas instead... maybe Jimmy Buffet can do this promo."

Actual promo that just aired on CBS-FM -- LOL!  And of course they followed it with "The Pina Colada Song" (which we may well hear on HFH tomorrow).

Either that or the Buoys, which seems to have a groundswell of HFH support on DM's blog. Either way, Rupert gets paid.
Let's get right to it.

Working late & Deep Tracking, rewarded last hour with a long version of "Thick As A Brick", and right now grooving to the prog rock epic of ELP's "Fanfare for the Common Man".

Listened to CBS for part of the day today, and while I'm sure it's better than Jack, I think I'm enjoying the bumpers and the DJs' retro style more than the music itself, which sounds pretty damn close to what I remember hearing in the later days of KFRC. Still, nice to see that the good old stuff is triumphing over these young whippersnapper formats.

Well, yes, you're right, the music is similar, tho' CBS (to my ears) is choosing very well, '80s-wise -- great, upbeat pop singles (they actually played "Let's Hear it For the Boy" this afternoon, which I had used earlier today as an example of what they should be playing). One criticism of CBS-FM before they were Jacked was that they were trying, gingerly, to tiptoe into the '80s but were playing mostly drippy A/C ballads (Whitney, Air Supply, etc). This is the right way to do it, I think. It will never be "the Oldies station" again -- those days are gone, except on Satellite -- but it will be enjoyable, old-school "personality" radio.
