Oh, come now. If "We Built This City" had been performed by anonymous Brits with overdone haircuts, it would be revered as a fun one-off. I defiantly proclaim it BOS.
Maybe so, but I think context counts for something. It was done by a bunch of ex-hippies and their hired hands, so expectations were different than they would have been for your anonymous Brits.
One question: is WBTC as reviled in other parts of the country as it is here? I'm thinking that the fact that SF is referred to in all but name might have something to do with its disdain here.
I completely agree with Gaz -- it's a song
about corporate co-option, no? It's nowhere near the blatant commercial crapola Starship would go on to do ("Nothin's Gonna Stop us Now", anyone?). But sadly it IS reviled elsewhere, as it ranked #1 (iirc) on that VH-1 worst-of-all-time list.
Now here's one I agree with: Paul Anka. But VHM Odia Coates, who shoulda had a bigger career.
