13 July 2007--it's Hits...From Hell!!!
« on: July 09, 2007, 09:59:27 AM »
As promised, HFH is back this Friday. Dave is soliciting candidates on his blog page.

First one to spring to my mind (and I know he's played it before, but still...) is Playground in My Mind. Positively hideous song.
Let's get right to it.

I've always found it rather sweet. Seriously.  And Clint Holmes is doing a helluva Johnny Mathis imitation.  I've gotta try to come up with recent HFS -- the set is usuallly '70s/'80s skewed.

"My Humps" would be a good place to start.  Or maybe "Milkshake."

My Hits! my Hits! My lovely Hellish Hits!  Agreed, tho' I'm more interested in HFHs that are also KFOG staples (Alanis' "Ironic" would be one example).

I think the most recent songs to appear in HFH sets have been Celine D's "Titanic" theme and (in a covers-from-hell set) the hideous Pearl jam version of "Last Kiss".

As to "Milkshake", I'd pick Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback", which always struck me as a total ripoff of Kelis's hit --and a miilion times more annoying.

Kinda hard to post Hits-From-Hell suggestions on Dave's blog when the automated censors delete the word "hell". LOL!

I suggested Celine's "*anic" and they censored the first 3 letters of that song *le.

I hope it's a new group of songs. We don't need the same 10 as we've heard in the previous sets (so no Pina Colada song).

I'm looking forward to this as always, but I can't help but suspect this will be the standard "Dave asks for suggestions and then plays the usual suspects".

I feel the same, which is why I did a little research yesterday & posted the following on Dave's blog (still the latest comment as of this morning)

For a little historical perspective, this will be the 6th Friday 13th in the past 36 calendar months, and the first in that span to be a straight HFH set. It got skipped the last 2 times in favor of a really good (I thought anyway) Bad Luck set in April, and a 1970 set last October. The two preceeding sets were both "HFH Vertical Tastings" (Jan '06 & May '05) and the one before that was "HFH - When Good Artists Go Bad" (Aug '04). Out of those sets the only repeat offenders were "Mr. Roboto" & "That Girl Is Mine". And the only song mentioned above to appear in the past 3 years is "We Built This City".

So Dave, I think you can't go wrong (or is it right?) with any of these, and I'll only add Henry Gross "Shannon".

Nice job, sir. I'd forgotten about HFH VTs -- those were actually pretty good, as I recall.

Connect through the KFOG website instead of the link here.  I had the same problem.

PS: Why didn't I nominate "This Is Why I'm Hot"?

"We Built This City" followed by 9 songs from the '70s?  My prediction, alas, is coming true, methinks.

Oh, come now.  If "We Built This City" had been performed by anonymous Brits with overdone haircuts, it would be revered as a fun one-off.  I defiantly proclaim it BOS.

Wouldn't've got played anyway -- hip-hop isn't on Dave's radar, therefore he can't judge what's good or bad.
