Wow -- here's a lost nugget: Sea Level (C. Leavell, get it?), "That's Your Secret".  BOS for rarity alone.

straight in the eye, DIY, VHM.

And another VHM "Cheeseburger in Paradise". Yes the Buffet formula was calcifying at that point, but I still find this song irresistable.  Mmmmm.... cheeeze.

Woo hoo, tuned in just in time for PG's DIY. This song was the first time I ever encountered that acronym; it became quite a bit more popular in later years.
Let's get right to it.

good god almighty which way do I steer?

Ginger should've noted that Piranha had a screenplay by John Sayles. I think that paycheck enabled him to make Return of the Secaucus 7.

Indeed, it was a British-ism long before Americans picked up on it. Home-improvement stores a la Home Depot were called "DIY stores" in the UK 25-30 years ago.

I never knew this!  I first heard the term in the mid-'90s, around the same time I was intro'd to the PG song.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

Never heard this almost-disco Van before.  "Natalia" gets my BOS.

speaking of first times you heard things, first time I heard this Van song was when Ginger played it a couple years ago in a '78 set.

BOS3 Van the Man, "Natalia" -- a Narada to me until it started showing up semi-regularly in Ginger's sets. Don't remember it getting NY airplay at the time (and I listened to FM rock radio incessantly), but it's a fave now.

WOS to Devo's "Satisfaction."  I didn't, and don't, *get* what they were doing with this and "Coal Mine."

triple-almost-jinx. That's 3 of us who never heard this one in '78.  Glad it's not just me.

OMFG! BOS4 Devo, "Satisfaction" -- one of the New Wave tracks that separated the forward-looking types from the old hippies (many forget that there were folks who claimed to love rock who HATED Punk & NW, and they *really* hated this cover).

See above; you're too young to be an old hippie, Gaz.  They're re-inventing it, silly.

And I have a 10:00 meeting. see ya on the flip.
